The Steam battlestaff is a medium-power elemental staff. It requires 30 Attack and Magic to wield and provides an unlimited amount of water and fire runes. Steam battlestaves are dropped only by K'ril Tsutsaroth and his bodyguards, Balfrug Kreeyath, Tstanon Karlak, and Zakl'n Gritch.
The steam battlestaff was released on 28 August 2007 as part of the God Wars Dungeon update and is the latest of the hybrid elemental staves. After its release, some players complained about the Steam Battlestaff's similar appearance to the Air staff. However, it received a graphical update on September 5th 2012 with the God Wars Remastered update, giving it a unique look. Visually, the steam battlestaff is identical to the Mystic Steam Staff.
It can be made into a Mystic Steam Staff by Thormac for a fee of 40,000 coins after completing the Scorpion Catcher Quest or for 27,000 coins while wearing a Seers' Headband 3. Upgrading the staff provides additional crush and strength bonuses.
Since the release of Dungeoneering, the Tome of Frost provides a cheaper alternative than a Steam battlestaff. It can additionally be used in conjunction with other staves to provide different combinations of runes. However, it requires at least 48 dungeoneering and 43,000 tokens.
At times, this staff may cost more on the Grand Exchange than the Mystic Steam Staff, despite the latter being an upgraded version of this battlestaff.
The following spells require both water and fire runes:
- Teleport to Ape Atoll
- Bake Pie (Lunar spell)
- Humidify (Lunar spell, requires Dream Mentor)
- Magic Imbue (Lunar spell)
With 85 Crafting, players may attach a shade skull to the Steam battlestaff, creating a Skeletal battlestaff of steam.
