A Lava battlestaff is a medium power lava elemental staff which requires 30 Attack and Magic to wield and provides an unlimited amount of earth and fire runes. Lava battlestaves are dropped by the Kalphite Queen, Aberrant spectres and Infernal Mages. Earth and fire runes are only used together in the Enchant Level 6 Jewellery spell. Since there is only one spell which uses both earth and fire runes, and it is rarely cast, the lava battlestaff's primary use is convenience, as players only need one staff as opposed to a Staff of Fire and a Staff of Earth. It was the first hybrid elemental staff to be released. Visually the lava battlestaff is identical to the mystic lava staff. It can be upgraded to a mystic lava staff by Thormac for 40,000 coins after completing the Scorpion Catcher quest or for 27,000 coins while wearing a Seers' headband 3. However, using a lava battlestaff along with the Tome of Frost is a good strategy, as the caster will have all elemental runes, except air.
With 85 Crafting, players may attach a shade skull to the Lava battlestaff, creating a Skeletal battlestaff of lava.

Trivia
- The weapon in the bank seems a lot more horizontal than the other battlestaves.
