K'ril Tsutsaroth

This article has a strategy guide here.
Once thought of as nothing more than a myth, this beast of the darkness has destroyed towns and levelled entire cities, leaving nobody alive to confirm his existence. This intense brutality and strength has ensured his position as one of Zamorak's most feared tools of destruction. His powerful melee attacks will crush all but the strongest of warriors.

K'ril Tsutsaroth is a huge demonic monstrosity currently stationed in the God Wars Dungeon, no longer frozen due to the tectonic movements in the Wilderness. He was summoned to RuneScape in the Third Age by the Mahjarrat Bilrach, and is now the commander of the Zamorak armies within the God Wars Dungeon. To gain access to his chamber, players must kill 40 Zamorakians. He is the eighth strongest attackable monster in RuneScape after Nomad, TzTok-Jad, TokHaar-Jad, the Corporeal Beast, Har-Aken, Nex, and the Queen Black Dragon.

He uses melee and magic attacks, hitting up to 463 with the former and 300 with the latter. K'ril Tsutsaroth has a special attack that slams through your melee protection prayer and may hit up to 499. When he does he will lower your prayer points by half of the amount of damage done. Tanking players in magic-defence armor such as Ganodermic armour should use Protect from Melee, as it will protect you from his dangerous melee attacks. Another viable option is to use Protect from Magic with strong melee armor like Barrows or Torva armour. The benefits of this are that K'ril's relatively common Magic attacks will be blocked, his attacks will be easier to resist, and the special attack will be avoided, meaning fewer massive hits and prayer drains. K'ril has a surprisingly low defence for his combat level, meaning that hitting him is fairly easy.

When he swipes his target once each with his scimitars, he is using his melee attack. When he slams both of them onto the ground and orange flames appear, he is using his magic attack. When he slams both scimitars down and a cloud of black gas spreads out, he is using his special attack. After the September God Wars Dungeon update, K'ril still targets one player. However, anybody standing on the tank will also be attacked, so players should stand away from the tank. Players can be poisoned or have their prayer drained if this occurs.

He is most often killed for the Robes of subjugation, Zamorak hilt, and Zamorakian spear, but some players kill him (or his bodyguards) for Slayeror recreational purposes.

K'ril's attacks are poisonous and start at 168 life points per hit, making him the second most poisonous monster in the game, however this can be offset or even turned beneficial from the use of the Poison Purge aura. Being such a poisonous monster, K'ril is immune to all forms of poison. K'ril Tsutsaroth also says the following lines:

  • Attack them, you dogs!
  • Forward!
  • Death to Saradomin's dogs!
  • Kill them, you cowards!
  • The Dark One will have their souls!
  • Zamorak curse them!
  • YARRRRRRR! (Only if using his prayer-draining attack)
  • Rend them limb from limb!
  • No retreat!
  • Flay them all!

If K'ril Tsutsaroth yells "YARRRRRRR!", players will get the following message: K'ril Tsutsaroth slams through your protection prayer, leaving you feeling drained. After the September God Wars Dungeon update, any players standing on the tanking player will receive the message: K'ril Tsutsaroth slams through <player name>'s protection prayer, leaving you feeling drained.

K'ril Tsutsaroth is classified as a greater demon; thus, killing him counts towards any greater demon Slayer task, and also allows a player to take advantage of the abilities of a black mask, focus sight, hexcrest, Slayer helmet or full slayer helmet if they have a greater demon slayer task. Players will earn 350.5 Slayer experience if they slay K'ril Tsutsaroth on their greater demon Slayer task. Before 31 December 2010, K'ril Tsutsaroth was classified as a lesser demon.

Getting there

The huge K'ril and his smaller lackeys.
For more information, see God Wars Dungeon.

The easiest way to get there is to cast Trollheim teleport, run north to the big rock, push it out of the way, and then run north to the hole.

The kill count

The kill count (commonly abbreviated as "kc") can be reached in several ways. If you bring a Saradomin-aligned item, it becomes very easy to kill the bloodvelds, werewolves, and vampyres engaged in combat with the spiritual mages and spiritual warriors in the main area. Usually, the Zamorak minions will not turn on you, and the spiritual mages hit hard and often, often enabling you to quickly hit every Zamorakian monster nearby once and letting the Saradomin minions kill them.

If you do not have a Saradomin item, you should turn on protect from magic immediately after entering the God Wars Dungeon because the Saradomin priests and spiritual mages will attack. You should then enter Zamorak's fortress and kill the five imps inside. Two imps respawn in the northwestern corner and the other three respawn on the northeastern corner.

Trivia

Offical artwork of K'ril
  • According to the 16th "Chronicles of Bilrach", Bilrach created and summoned K'ril Tsutsaroth for Zamorak.
  • K'ril Tsutsaroth used to be classed as a lesser demon by Slayer masters, but an unannounced change in late 2010 classified him as a greater demon, as was confirmed to have happened via Twitter on 20 September 2010 by Mod Emilee.
File:Zammy.png
Confirmed via Twitter
  • Previously, equipping an anti-poison totem would not prevent K'ril from causing poison. This was fixed on 15 June 2010.
  • K'ril's melee attack, which is poisonous, can be blocked by Protection/Deflection prayers. This may be an oversight from Jagex as other poisonous monsters can poison through prayer.
  • It is interesting to note that his attacks are multi-hitting only if players stand near the attacking unit or on the attacking unit. Unlike other units, his multi-hitting attacks are different from others like the Kalphite Queen and Dagannoth Supreme.
    • For example, if there are three players near the tank and K'ril hits a 280 with melee on the attacked unit, the three players and tank will be dealt with 70 damage each. Also, if the player is using Melee protection prayers and K'ril attacks with melee, the attack is negated and all four players do not take damage.
  • K'ril Tsutsaroth yells "The Dark One will have their souls!" and in Divine Skinweaver's journal it has reference to a Dark One, giving further evidence that Bilrach created K'ril Tsutsaroth.
  • At one point, he appeared similar to the Kal'Gerion demon, as his appearance was very similar to the old models for the Kal'Gerion demons. However, after their graphical update, this similarity no longer exists.
  • On 14 September 2011, he and Commander Zilyana were graphically updated along with the release of Ritual of the Mahjarrat. Now, he once again looks similar to a Kal'Gerion demon.
  • K'ril Tsutsaroth battles and defeats Commander Zilyana in a flashback during Ritual of the Mahjarrat. If it were not for Saradomin's intervention and the power of the Stone of Jas, it is unlikely that Zilyana would be alive today, which is a testament to K'ril's power.
  • Since his graphics update, he now no longer resembles his RuneScape Duel Card.
  • Despite his status as a demon, K'ril does not appear to share other demons' weakness to magic; even with a solid magic attack bonus, polypore staff and under the effect of overload it is difficult to land a hit on him.
  • New armour skins in Solomon's General Store are based on K'rils own armour and weapon.
