The Rune sword is a sword stronger than the adamant sword. Like most Rune weapons, it requires 40 Attack to wield. It is the strongest shortsword available to free players. Players can make a rune sword with the Smithing skill at level 89 using 1 rune bar, giving the player 75 Smithing experience.

Rune swords are sold in the Champion's Guild at Scavvo's Rune Store, and are dropped by certain monsters. They can also be obtained from level 3 Treasure Trails.

While the Rune longsword has the same stab bonus, a Rune sword also has the accurate attack which gives an invisible +3 boost to attack. Therefore the rune sword has a slightly more accurate stabbing attack then the rune longsword, as well as higher attack speed. As most opponents are not weak to stab, many players choose not to use this weapon. Although not used often by most players, in the hands of a player with a high attack level it can prove to be very effective.

Tindel Marchant will repair rusty swords, which may randomly become any sword from bronze to rune.

This weapon had become somewhat more popular in Bounty Hunter +1 worlds due to the release of the gravite 2h sword. The rune scimitar's combat styles were not compatible with the gravite 2h in a combo. Therefore player killers who wished to use the gravite 2h as their knock-out weapon used to use a rune sword, as its combat styles are compatible.

This is an inexpensive rune weapon with exceptional stats for its price, and over time does similar damage to a rune scimitar. This weapon is more accurate on monsters weak to stab, however, so when accuracy is a factor then the rune sword is a better choice than the scimitar.
