The Rune dagger is a dagger stronger than an adamant dagger, but weaker than a dragon dagger. Like all rune weapons, it requires 40 attack to wield. It can be used in combat, although it has other purposes, such as dicing/slicing pineapples, or cutting through webs. It once was the strongest dagger available to free players, but after the PvP Worlds update, the corrupted dragon dagger now succeeds the rune dagger. Like all daggers, this weapon is fast, but weak. Players can make a rune dagger with the Smithing skill at level 85 using 1 rune bar giving the player 75 Smithing experience. Members can poison this weapon, giving them an advantage in combat. Like all daggers, other than the dragon dagger, this item is rarely used and is almost never seen due to it having no advantage over the scimitar and the short sword. It may however make a good stab weapon for players who either can't afford, do not wish to risk, or do not have the requirements for better weapons.

Rune daggers can also be obtained as rewards from Level 3 Treasure trails, and as a drop from Blue Dragons, Green Dragons, Cave Horrors, Turoths, Basilisks, Dust Devils, Aviansies, Elf warriors, Zamorak Warriors, Mature grotworm or looted from Eclectic implings (many players choose to cast High Alchemy after obtaining one). It is sold by Urbi in Sophanem after the Contact! quest and can also be bought from the Grand Exchange in Varrock or by trading with other players.
