The Guthix staff is one of the God staves that can be obtained after completing the Mage Arena minigame. It can only be used in combat and is one of two items that can cast the Claws of Guthix spell. To get it, you must defeat Kolodion the mage and all his different forms. Its effect is that it lowers the opponent's defence. Either speak to the merchant after worshipping the statue of Guthix or buy one off the merchant for 80,000 coins.

Strangely, the Guthix staff has weaker stats than normal elemental staves even though it is a god item. The staff's Autocast ability (before 2 September) could be used to automatically cast elemental spells but not the Claws of Guthix spell. Because of this, it is advisable to get a Void Knight mace. Although the mace has more requirements, it is lighter, and, most importantly, it has much higher stats. It also gives a +10% magic damage boost.

Take caution when fighting with this weapon and the cape, for if you die and you lose them on death, you will not be able to return to your gravestone and claim them. You must go back to the Mage Arena and pray at the appropriate statue and buy the appropriate staff back from the merchant for 80,000 coins.

Trivia

• Originally, the only weapon that could autocast Claws of Guthix was the Void Knight mace. Now you can autocast without any staff, though a staff can be a necessity for casting the spell, like God spells, Iban's blast, Slayer dart and Miasmic spells with Zuriel's staff.
• After the look of the gnomes was updated, so was the look of the Guthix staff wielded by the gnomes in the Mage Arena.
