Combat pure/Melee Pures & PKers

From Darkan
Jump to navigation Jump to search

These pures are players that have a lot of funds (gold pieces) and a lot of time. They stay at 1, 5, 10, 16, 20 Attack, (mostly 60 attack) and 60+ strength for the Obsidian Maul (which requires 60 strength to wield). Some combine Ranged (throwing knives) or Magic with this to make a deadly, albeit costly combat combo (balance wise). Do note, however, that eventually pures using this method will become Ranged or Magic based. Some also have Level 1 (to minimise one's level of combat), 13 (for a 10% damage boost for only 1-2 combat levels), 31 (for a 15% damage boost), 34 (for a 15% accuracy boost), or 65 (for Rapid Renewal) Prayer. Pures with 1 Attack can not get climbing boots due to the fact that the Death Plateau quest has to be completed to obtain them, and because this quest gives out Attack experience points (3,000), Attack is increased from Level 1 to 16. Pures who choose 20 Attack have access to the Corrupt Vesta's longsword and the Corrupt Statius warhammer, both giving massive attack and strength bonus comparable to those of the Godswords.

Some low Attack pures gain defence (most often 40 or 70) to tank with an Obsidian maul, therefore taking low damage from accounts their level while outputting high damage with an Obsidian maul, although training can be notably difficult. It is already difficult to train Strength on an account with Level 1 Attack, but these types of accounts train both Attack and Defence, which means more time is spent on training in general. Training Strength,Constitution and/or Defence can be significantly easier at Soul Wars, as experience gain is based on your level in the corresponding skill.

Attack

1 - Obsidian Mauler

A 1 Attack pure can get 40 Magic to wield a Sacred clay staff, 55 Slayer and Magic to wield a Slayer staff, and 50 Runecrafting to wield a Runecrafting staff, or even possibly 80 dungeoneering and magic to wield a Chaotic staff (the account will be magic-based at 1 attack and 99 strength, meaning that 21 attack is required to make the account melee-based), which have relatively high Strength bonuses for weapons that can be wielded at 1 attack, and all are much faster weapons than the Obsidian maul. This makes them useful as training weapons for a 1 Attack pure. They could also be used to deliver faster damage to an opponent, while using an Obsidian maul for finishing an opponent with a high hit. These pures are mainly designed for fighting other pures, as most main accounts and Summoning Tanks have very high defence compared to the low attack level of the Obsidian Mauler, thus making combat very difficult.

This type of pure was created on 19 September 2005, with the release of the TzHaar City.

20 - Corrupt Pure

This pure uses corrupt Vestas' longsword or Statius' hammer. These both require 20 attack to use. The weapons will be destroyed after 15 minutes of wielding, so this method of PVP is very expensive, yet may be rewarding if used well. These weapons may be used with corrupt armour as well, for massive bonuses to strength. An added bonus is the ability to use Rock Climbing Boots if Death Plateau has been completed.

40 - Rune Weaponry Pure

Designed for F2P Combat, however, at higher levels. Players with Level 40 Attack have a very hard time hitting people with 30 or higher defence; however, in no-armour fights, players with Level 40 Attack are far more efficient. Combined with a Maple shortbow with Adamant arrows, a Rune 2h sword can be deadly and hit massive damage. For Pay-to-play players, 40 Attack is HIGHLY not recommended, as enemies with weaponry such as Granite Mauls and Dragon Daggers can easily hit higher than the 40 Attack pure. Rune Scimitars can be very useful for inflicting damage, however a Maple shortbow with Adamant arrows is stronger in terms of damage per minute.

Notable Weaponry: Rune scimitar, Rune 2h sword

45 - Gravite Weaponry Pure

Designed for F2P Combat. With 99 Strength, this type of pure is slightly lower of a level than a player with 99 Ranged. The Gravite 2h sword is the most powerful weapon in the Free-to-play version of the game but has a significant handicap. As the sword has -4 Slash attack, the third attack style must be used, resulting in pures being unable to effectively switch from a Maple shortbow without either slashing or using the long-range style. Safer methods of combat include starting out with a Rune sword on its slash attack style while using the Gravite 2h sword as a knock-out weapon, or simply using the Gravite 2h sword for the whole fight. Remember that when dying with the Gravite 2h sword, equip it again immediately before you accidently attack an NPC or player and gain defence experience. Use of Gravite rapiers and longswords is not recommended, as the difference between them and Rune scimitars or Rune longswords is subtle.

Note: Despite various rumours, a chainbody of any conventional metal (compared to the platebody of the same metal) will not be anywhere near enough to decrease the Gravite 2h's effectiveness by a noticeable margin.

Notable Weaponry: Gravite 2h sword, Gravite rapier, Gravite longsword

50 - Granite Mauler Pure

Designed for P2P Combat, with 99 strength is only slightly higher combat level than with only 99 Ranged. The Granite Maul's special attack can strike three times in quick succession, and often KOs other pures. 50 Attack also makes use of the Leaf-bladed sword possible, the most accurate non-degradable stab weapon available to pures. Make sure to have Tree Gnome Village and Grand Tree complete long before 50 Attack, or you will be around 51 or 52 Attack with Adamant Gloves. Ancient staves are also a fantastic weapon for Hybrids or Magic pures, as they provide a 10% magic damage boost and a 15 Magic attack boost for minimal cost. Although a dragon dagger is much better, the Keris can be used as a poisoning weapon for the 50 Attack pure.

Note: This attack level is highly unadvised with a Defence level of higher than 5.

Notable Weaponry: Granite maul, Leaf-bladed sword, Ancient staff, Keris

60 - Dragon Weaponry Pure

Designed for P2P and F2P Combat, around 3-4 combat levels higher than an account with 50 Attack. Dragon weaponry has extremely powerful special attacks, and can often decimate opponents in seconds. In P2P, these pures have access to all weapons available. It is recommended to get Tree Gnome Village done before Level 60 Attack, as otherwise you will be 61 Attack with Adamant Gloves. Dragon claws can take down mains and pures with ease (each special attack is four times as accurate), while the Dragon dagger is very inexpensive, hits twice with the special attack, and can be poisoned. Dragon scimitars are a weapon not terribly difficult to acquire, and can be used as a melee weapon during Hybriding. Some players with 70 Attack or higher choose to use Dragon scimitars for a decent, cheap weapon. The Barrelchest anchor is not very powerful in terms of damage per second, however is often used for comboing with the Granite maul's special attack.

Notable Weaponry: Dragon claws, Dragon dagger, Dragon scimitar, Barrelchest anchor

70 - Saradomin Sword Pure

Designed for P2P Combat. These accounts believe that the +16 Strength and Attack (in comparison to the Dragon Scimitar) are worth the extra 10 Attack levels. However, these pures aren't very common, as most people consider Godsword Pures to be much better.

Notable Weaponry: Abyssal whip, Saradomin sword

75 - Godsword Pure

Designed for P2P Combat. These accounts are usually maxed out at around 86-88 Combat, and can inflict massive amounts of damage (over 600) with the Armadyl Godsword special attack. In addition, these pures have access to the Staff of Light, one of the, if not the, best staff for magic. The Staff of Light's special attack can be very effective in taking down melee pures, or hybriding against people in Dragonhide. These pures often start out attacking with Ranged or Magic, then catch an enemy by surprise by using the Armadyl Godsword's special attack.

Notable Weaponry: Armadyl Godsword, Bandos Godsword, Saradomin Godsword, Staff of light

78 - Vesta's and Statius Weaponry Pure

These pures can use the extremely powerful (though expensive) non-corrupt Vesta's and Statius weaponry (Note: do not use Vesta's spear, as all of its attack styles give defence experience). The Statius Warhammer is very effective against main accounts as it reduces their defence by a third, while Vesta's Longsword is extremely accurate and rarely misses. In addition, these pures can use Zuriel's staff, which is a far better value in terms of cost per hour.

Notable Weaponry: Vesta's longsword, Statius warhammer, Zuriel's staff, Korasi's sword

80 - Chaotic Weaponry Pure

These pures have access to the strongest melee weapons in the game, however, training Dungeoneering is extremely strenuous on a pure. The good thing about being a Chaotic Pure is that hardly anybody, if any, will have Chaotic weapons, allowing you to succeed over them with ease. The Chaotic Maul is very powerful for comboing with a Granite Maul, while the Chaotic Longsword can tear through an enemy's defence with ease. The Chaotic Rapier is the best choice for fighting other pures or similarly levelled main accounts.

Notable Weaponry: Chaotic rapier, Chaotic longsword, Chaotic maul

Defence

1 - Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, dragon scimitar, amulet of fury, Unholy book, Bearhead, iron platebody, black d'hide chaps, climbing boots, Fire cape, berserker ring, regen bracelet.

These were some of the first types of accounts created with PKing in mind. A lot of people with Defence did not PK in their best equipment unless they had money to spare, and in Runescape Classic, you had to finish 3 rounds of combat to run away from your opponent. With this in mind, players created pures with low Defence but high offensive stats so they didn't have to worry about losing expensive armour with good defensive bonuses, and could kill accounts who were trying to escape in 3 rounds of combat. The structure of a 1 Defence pure (high offensive stats with low defensive stats) gives a player a better chance of killing an enemy before he runs away, which was fairly common in the Wilderness. This line of thought carries into Bounty Hunter, since an opponent running for the safe zone has a higher chance of being killed by someone with high Attack and Strength than someone who has moderate Attack, Defence and Strength. Low Defence keeps the combat level down, so pures can more often than not kill a main account of the same level. Even though you can hit accurately with high damage, you also receive a lot of damage in return, essentially creating a double edged sword. This is the most popular form of PKing accounts amongst RuneScape players and the type most people think of when talking about pures.

The total strength bonus of a 1 Defence pure is +29, or +31 with an amulet of strength.

1 Defence pures are "Maxed" at 99 (or 75) Attack, 99 Strength, 99 Ranged, 99 Magic, 1 Defence, 43 (or 44, 45, 52) Prayer, 99 Constitution, and 99 Summoning at Combat level 94+12 (98+12 if you get 77 Prayer,87+12 if you get 75 Attack)

5 - Steel Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Mask of Dragith Nurn, amulet of fury, steel defender, Regen Bracelet, black d'hide chaps, climbing boots, Berserker ring (i), Fire cape

These pures are usually 1 Defence pures that had gotten 2 Defence by accident, and decide to raise it a little. If taken into a positive perspective, they have slightly more defence from attacks, and gain access to more armour. These pures should have The Blood Pact complete before getting 412 defence experience, as this rewards the ability to wear the Mask of Dragith Nurn (which can be worn at Level 2 Defence), which gives better accuracy bonuses than the Bearhead. The Defence 5 pure will be exactly one combat level higher than a pure with level 1 Defence. Getting 5 Defence currently does not give any boosts to Ranged or Magic. Some Free-to-play pures choose 5 Defence as they believe the extra accuracy bonus is worth the extra combat level.

The total strength bonus of a 5 Defence pure is +30, +1 higher than a 1 pure with Level 1 Defence. (Or, +32 with an Amulet of Strength). Note that the Steel Defender gives lower attack bonuses than the Unholy Book, however it provides a +1 Strength bonus, in which the Unholy Book does not. 5 Defence pures are "maxed" at Level 99+13 Combat, with 99 Attack, 99 Strength, 99 Constitution, 5 Defence, 77 Prayer and 99 Summoning.

Some benefits of 5 Defence over 1 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Steel Defender, Mask of Dragith Nurn, Steel equipment

10 - Slayer Helm Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee equipment of choice, Full Slayer Helmet, bearhead or white full helm, white platebody, black d'hide chaps, regen bracelet (Cannot get rune gloves with 10 defence, as Nature Spirit gets level 13 Defence), amulet of fury, black defender, climbing boots, Fire cape, Berserker ring (i).

Some players get 10 Defence to wear black/white armour, combat robes, druidic mage robes, and hardleather bodies while only gaining 2-3 combat levels in return. These pures aren't very common, while most pures are choosing 1 or 20 defence. In order to equip white armour, one must complete the Wanted! quest. The quests that are recommended to be done before Level 10 Defence are The Blood Pact (for the Mask of Dragith Nurn), and A Soul's Bane (for the extra quest points), then train the remaining 392 experience. Remember that in order to get the Full Slayer Helmet or Slayer Helmet, 85 Combat is required (from Smoking Kills), however do note that combat levels gained from Summoning count towards this. In the Free-to-play version of the game, these pures have the maximum possible Magic attack. The black chainbody also allows excellent defence against the gravite 2h sword, thus making 10 Defence an excellent option for Free-to-play as well.

The total strength bonus (not including a weapon) from the above equipment is +31, or +33 with an Amulet of Strength. This is +2 higher than a pure with Level 1 Defence. 10 Defence pures are "maxed" at Level 101+12 Combat, with 99 Attack, 99 Strength, 99 Constitution, 10 Defence, 77 Prayer and 99 Summoning.

Benefits of 10 Defence over 1 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Black Defender, White Armour, Black Armour, Hardleather Body, Combat Robes, Druidic Robes, Falador Shield 1,Full Slayer Helmet, Mask of Dragith Nurn, Black Gauntlets, Korasi's sword

13 - Rune Gloves Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Full Slayer Helmet, bearhead or white full helm, white platebody, black d'hide chaps, rune gloves, amulet of fury, black defender, climbing boots, Fire cape, Berserker Ring (i)

Some pures choose to get 13 defence in order to wear rune gloves. The quest Nature Spirit rewards 2,000 defence exp, which will get a pure from 1-13 defence, allowing rune gloves to be obtained. These pures aren't very common, while most pures are choosing 1 or 20 defence. In addition, Level 13 in Defence (if Nature Spirit was completed), allows access to Ardougne Cloak 2, which provides +4 Stab, Magic and Prayer. 13 Defence pures will always be three combat levels higher than a regular pure. Nature Spirit should be the only quest completed to gain 13 Defence, however those who do not think they'll ever accidently train Defence can complete The Blood Pact(However, the pure will be left with 2 experience from Level 14!) for the Mask of Dragith Nurn.

The 13 Defence pure, with the above gear, has a strength bonus of 32, or 34 with an Amulet of Strength. This is 3 higher than a pure with level 1 Defence or 1 higher than a pure with level 10 Defence. 13 Defence pures are "maxed" at Level 101+13 Combat, with 99 Attack, 99 Strength, 99 Constitution, 13 Defence, 77 Prayer and 99 Summoning.

Some benefits of 13 Defence over 10 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Magic Secateurs, Ardougne Cloak 2, Rune Gloves

20 - Initiate / Corrupt Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, initiate sallet or Saradomin Mitre or Full Slayer helmet, initiate platebody, black d'hide chaps, rune gloves, amulet of fury, mithril defender, climbing boots, Fire cape, Berserker Ring (i)

Some players choose to get 20 Defence to wear Initiate armour, studded body, Mystic robes and Corrupt Ancient Warriors' Equipment. Initiate armour allows a pure to have a greater Prayer bonus, which will keep Prayer points from draining as quickly (however, this point holds obsolete as Level 1 Defence has the same prayer bonus as Level 20 Defence), and a studded body will give better defence against Magic. The only time this pure wears full Initiate armour is when relying heavily on Prayer. However, a greater bonus gained from Level 20 Defence is access to all Corrupt Ancient Warriors' Equipment (does NOT include dragon), providing some of the highest strength bonuses in the game. 20 Defence, when combined with Corrupt Morrigan's Equipment and Mercenary's gloves, has access to the maximum ranged accuracy in the game. The 20 Defence Pure is 4-5 combat levels higher than a pure with level 1 Defence.

Defence experience should be gained from the following quests: Nature Spirit (for Rune Gloves), What Lies Below (for Dagon'hai robes), In Search of the Myreque and The Blood Pact (for the Mask of Dragith Nurn).

The total strength bonus of Level 20 Defence is +33 (+35 with an Amulet of Strength), +4 higher than Level 1 Defence.

However, with full Corrupt Vesta's Equipment, the 20 Defence pure has a strength bonus of +45 (+47 with an Amulet of Strength), +16 higher than Level 1 Defence. 20 Defence pures are "maxed" at Level 103+12 Combat, with 99 Attack, 99 Strength, 99 Constitution, 20 Defence, 77 Prayer and 99 Summoning.

Benefits from Level 20 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Corrupt Ancient Warriors' Equipment, Mithril Defender, Initiate Armour, Mithril Armour, Rune gloves, Dagon'hai robes, Mystic Robes, Falador Shield 2, Studded body.

30 - Proselyte / Turmoil Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Proselyte hauberk, Proselyte cuisse, rune gloves, amulet of fury, adamant defender, climbing boots, Fire cape, Berserker Ring (i).

A rare type of pure, often referred to as an Addy Daddy. Pures with 30 Defence (although some do not consider them pures) can use Ancient Curses and inflict massive amounts of damage on their enemies. Soul Split and Turmoil combined can lead to enemies to run out of food very quickly, especially at a low combat level. Since these prayers have very high drains to their prayer, Proselyte armour comes in great help. Other benefits from Level 30 Defence include Snakeskin armour (particularly the body), Third age mage armour and the powerful new Fungal armour. Also, in the Free-to-play version of the game, Adamant armour does not protect over a Gravite 2h Sword, making it a very good choice for combat, and with very high prayer, can use their strongest boosts to destroy an opponent. Compared to a 1 defence pure with 52 Prayer, a 30 defence with 95 Prayer is exactly 10-11 combat levels higher.

Defence Experience should be gained from these quests: Nature Spirit, What Lies Below, Defender of Varrock, and The Blood Pact.

The total strength bonus a proselyte pure gets from the outfit above is 34, or 36 with an amulet of strength. With Full Corrupt Vesta's Equipment, a strength bonus of 46, or 48 with an amulet of strength.

30 Defence pures are "maxed" at Level 108+12 Combat, with 99 Attack, 99 Strength, 99 Constitution, 30 Defence, 95 Prayer and 99 Summoning.

Benefits from Level 30 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Falador Shield 3, Adamant Armour, Proselyte, Adamant defender, Adamant gauntlets, Snakeskin Body, 3rd age robe, Ancient Curses, Fungal armour

35 - Adamant Berserker / Barrows Gloves Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Full slayer helmet, Proselyte hauberk, Proselyte cuisse, Climbing boots, Barrows gloves, Berserker ring (i), Amulet of fury, Adamant defender, Tokhaar cape. Some people think 35 Defence is worth it for barrows gloves and adamant berserker shields in F2P. 35 Defence is the minimum possible level to get Barrows Gloves, which give the highest melee bonuses for any hand items. In addition, Agile Armour can be used, which can be very useful for fighting in high-levelled wilderness to hunt down people who run away. These pures aren't very common, as most people believe that getting the slight combat level boost for 40 Defence is worth the benefits acquired. 35 Defence is often considered impractical due to 28 or 30 Defence pures having Turmoil, which provides a boost greater than the one gained from Barrows Gloves.

Defence experience should be gained from: Dragon Slayer, Nature Spirit, Heroes' Quest.

The total Strength bonus of a 35 Defence Pure is 38, or 40 with an Amulet of Strength. With Corrupt Vesta's Equipment, a strength bonus of 50, or 52 with an Amulet of Strength.

Benefits of Level 35 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Adamant berserker shield, Adamant Defender, Barrows gloves, Agile top and Agile legs

40 - Rune Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Fighter torso, Rune armour or Elite black armour, Fighter hat, Berserker ring (i), rune defender, Barrows gloves, amulet of fury, Fire cape, rune boots or Runner boots.

Other pures choose to get 40 Defence for boosts from questing and the tremendous increase in strength bonuses given by the maximum Rune Pure outfit (see above), however do not believe it is worth the extra 1.25 combat levels for the Berserker Helm. Those who get 40 defence have access to Rune armour, Dragonhide armour, Splitbark armour and the Fighter torso (which has a greater defence against slash attacks than rune platebody but has lower Defence against stab and crush attacks - most players use slash-based weapons such as abyssal whips or scimitars). It also gives a +4 strength bonus. For F2P the Rune Platebody used to be the best defence, but due to the new Gravite 2h Sword, the chainbody is now the torso of choice in free worlds. This however leaves you vulnerable to the attacks of sighted maple shortbows and stabbing weaponry, though most prefer to block "knockout" weapons over normal weapons to best lower the risk of death. The other benefit that comes with 40 Defence is access to Lunar spells, including the Vengeance spell. As Rune Pures have much lower defence, it is not hard to "combo" with Vengeance and kill your opponent. To be able to use Barrows gloves, this pure would have to gain a total of 176 quest points and get all their Defence experience directly from quests. The quests a typical Berserker pure will get Defence XP from are The Fremennik Trials, Dragon slayer, Nature Spirit, Monkey Madness (DO NOT ACCEPT THE EXPERIENCE FROM DAERO AFTER COMPLETING THIS QUEST!), and Heroes' Quest, for Barrows gloves. Refusing the experience from Monkey Madness makes it possible to complete What Lies Below and Defender of Varrock, allowing you to do The Temple at Senntisten, to access the Ancient curses. Ancient curses are an immediate advantage in a fight between two berserker pures, as the Sap Mage or Leech Magic prayers prevent the use of Vengeance by the opponent, which is one of the largest advantages Berserker pures during combat.

The total Strength bonus of a 40 Defence Rune Pure is +43, or +45 with an Amulet of Strength. With Corrupt Vesta's Equipment, the strength bonus is +51, or +53 with an Amulet of Strength.

Benefits of Level 40 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Barrows Gloves, Fighter torso, Fighter hat, Splitbark, Dragonhide armour, rune defender, rune armour, Vengeance, rune gauntlets.

42 - Void Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Void Robe top, Void robe, Melee Void Knight Helmet, Berserker ring (i), rune defender, Void gloves, amulet of fury, Fire cape, rune boots or Runner boots.

Some pures who enjoy hybriding or ranging will choose to get 42 Defence for Void armour and/or all of the benefits of 40 Defence plus a hand cannon. As a full set of Void Ranged boosts your ranged DAMAGE (not accuracy) by 10% (11.5% with Eagle Eye turned on), 42 Defence may be worth it to inflict massive damage. Damage includes, but is not limited to, 1120 damage from a hand cannon combo or 960 damage from a Dark Bow special attack. In addition, switching attack styles from ranged, magic and melee only takes two clicks (a void helm and a corresponding weapon, however note that this results in tremendous risk). These quests rewarding defence experience should be completed: All of the quests for 40 Defence plus Between A Rock(Hand cannon). Note that 42 Defence is only .75 combat levels less than 45 Defence, so getting more defence may be worth it if it does not increase your combat level.

The total Strength bonus of a 42 Defence Void Pure wearing Full Melee Void is +27, or +29 with an amulet of strength. Do note, however, that Full Melee Void increases total Melee damage by 10%.

Benefits of Level 42 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Void Knight Equipment, Hand Cannon

45 - Berserker Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Fighter torso, rune platelegs, Berserker helm, Berserker ring (i), rune defender, Barrows gloves, amulet of fury, Rune Defender, Fire cape, and rune boots.

Although the boosts from 40 and 42 Defence are extremely decent, some pures decide to bump it even higher to Level 45 Defence. 45 Defence rewards Third age ranger armour, Rune berserker shield, and the Berserker Helm. Getting 45 Defence leads to the maximum strength bonus in free-to-play (with a one-handed weapon). Some people do not think 45 Defence is worth it, as they do not believe it is worth the extra combat levels for a much higher risk, or think that a Corrupt statius's full helm is superior. These pures can, and should do all Defence experience quests except for A Clockwork Syringe, King's Ransom, Olaf's Quest and Salt in the Wound. Some Berserker Pures have 46-49 defence, often due to the fact that you had to obtain 20,000 defence experience from Monkey Madness in order to obtain Barrows Gloves, and wanted to get Turmoil and/or the Hand cannon.

The total Strength bonus of a 45 Defence Berserker Pure with the above gear is +46, or +48 with an amulet of strength. With Corrupt Vesta's Equipment, the Strength bonus is +51, or +53 with an amulet of strength.

Benefits of Level 45 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Berserker Helm, Farseer Helm, Archer Helm, Rune berserker shield, 3rd age ranged armour

50 - Granite PKer/Battle Pure

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Fighter torso, Granite platelegs, Bersereker helm, Berserker ring (i), Rune defender, Barrows gloves, amulet of fury, Fire cape, Rune boots or Runner boots. Some berserker pures believe that it is worth getting an additional combat level for use of Granite armour and the Dwarven helmet. As Tank Rangers are a very common sight when fighting around 100 Combat, Granite armour provides a far greater defence against Ranged attacks. The Dwarven helmet gives a +6 Crush bonus, allowing PKers with 50 Defence to have the maximum Crush attack bonus in RuneScape. Many high levels consider Granite to be a "noob armour," and will then underestimate the pure for the offence he or she actually has.

The total strength bonus of a 50 Defence Granite PKer with the above gear is +46, or +48 with an amulet of strength. With Corrupt Vesta's Equipment, the Strength bonus is +51, or +53 with an amulet of strength.

Benefits of Level 50 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Granite armour, Dwarven helmet, Battle robes

55 - Neitiznot PKer

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Fighter torso, Granite platelegs, Helm of Neitiznot, Berserker ring (i), Rune defender, Barrows gloves, amulet of fury, Fire cape, Rune boots or Runner boots.
an extremely rare pure, who are not often seen. these pures think it's worth getting 55 defence to wield all basic pk equipment, like many high-levelled players also often do. most people think these pures are rather useless since they're only 5 defence levels away from wielding dragon equipment, though dragon equipment isn't often used in pvp since it's very expensive and most players prefer Barrows equipment.
Benefits of Level 55 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Helm of Neitiznot

Chivalry through Super Defence potions in the King's Ransom quest.

60 - Dragon PKer

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Fighter torso, dragon plateskirt, Helm of Neitiznot, Berserker ring (i), Dragon Defender, Barrows gloves, amulet of fury, Fire cape, Dragon boots. These accounts believe that it is worth getting 60 Defence for the Dragon Defender and dragon boots, which provide the highest strength bonus for any boots in the game, however not worth getting the dragonfire shield due to its lack of attack bonuses and/or inability to be used with two-handed weapons. These also have access to Anti-poison totems and Neitiznot Helms. Use of the Obsidian Shield can be very useful, as defenders do not have to constantly be gained at the Warriors' Guild. These pures are virtually indistinguishable from regular mains, through use of one of the most common "PKing Sets" (Helm of Neitiznot, Rune platebody, Rune platelegs, Climbing boots). In the Free-to-play version of the game, Corrupt dragon armour can be worn, however use of the Corrupt dragon square shield is not necessary due to the strength bonus of the Rune berserker shield. Due to the massive cost of Dragon armour, most Dragon PKers do not actually use this armour.

The total Strength bonus of a 60 Defence Dragon PKer with the above gear is +48, or +50 with an amulet of strength. With Corrupt Vesta's Equipment, the Strength bonus is +53, or +55 with an amulet of strength.

Benefits of Level 60 Defence include, but are not limited to:

Anti-poison totem, Dragon armour, Obsidian shield

70 - Barrows PKer

Recommended equipment: Melee weapon of choice, Barrows set of choice, Barrows gloves, amulet of fury, fire cape or strength cape, berserker ring.

A Barrows pure (which isn't considered by most players to be a true pure, due to relatively high defence) is an account with a Defence level of 70. Most player killers who choose to raise their Defence levels to this extent do it to wear Barrows armour. An account with 70 Defence can also wear Bandos tassets for a higher total strength bonus, since they only require 65 Defence. These have access to Piety, which can be useful for hybriding (The Ranged and Magic boosts from the Ancient Curses aren't as large as those from the regular prayer book).

Players with 70 Defence are sometimes considered pure if their level in Attack is lower than usual. An example of this may be a player with 60 Attack, 99 Strength, Ranged and Magic, 70 Defence and 70 or 95 Prayer. This type of build is considered deadly to Berserker Pures, as they have enough accuracy to hit through their moderate defence as well as block many of the Berserker's attacks.

75 - Dragonfire Shield / Spirit Shield PKer

Recommended equipment: Abyssal whip, Dragonfire shield, Neitiznot or Torags helm, Torag armour.

Some Barrows PKers get 75 Defence to use Dragonfire shields and Spirit shields, which give high defence bonuses. The Elysian and Divine spirit shields are the only pieces of defensive armour in the game that actually reduce the damage you receive,(besides Chaotic kiteshield, Eagle-eye kiteshield and Farseer kiteshield) which makes them very beneficial in PvP.

80 - Chaotic PKer

Chaotic shields to deflect damage, can do everything in RuneScape except wear a defence cape and wear Ganodermic armour.

Common equipment
