Void Knight equipment
- This article is about the regular version. For the Elite/'improved' version, see Elite Void Knight equipment.
Void Knight equipment can be bought from the Void Knights with Void Knight commendation points, earned through the minigames Pest Control and Conquest. To buy and equip the items, a player must have level 42 in all of the next skills: Attack, Strength, Defence, Constitution, Ranged, Magic, and 22 Prayer (notice that Summoning is not required). Hence, the lowest possible combat level to wear the full set is 51.
The full available set consists of 3 Helmets (magic, ranged and melee), robe top, robe bottom, gloves, deflector, mace, and seal.
If the three main parts of the set are lost (top, bottom and helm) in a PvP situation, it will turn into 59430 coins.
This equipment is unique because it has a set effect (for more information, see below). For this set effect, not all pieces are needed, just three parts plus a helmet. The helmet will direct the set effect (making it either magic, ranged or melee oriented). Another unique quality of Void Knight armour is that it contributes defence bonuses near equally to all stats (including Magic and Ranged) without any negative attack bonuses (unlike normal Melee and Ranged armour), though it has no positive attack bonus (unlike normal Ranged and Magic armour). As such, this equipment can be used as an all-purpose armour, because any form of attack may be effectively conducted while having this armour equipped, especially at higher levels. See also Elite Void Knight equipment, this is the 'upgraded' version. The Elite Void Knight top and robe are similar to the normal top and robe but each give +4 prayer bonus and increased Summoning defence.
Set Effects
Void Knight armour has a set effect in addition to each item's stats. These depend upon which of the three Void Knight helmets are worn:
Image | Helmet | Set effect |
---|---|---|
Melee | +10% to Attack & Strength | |
Ranger | +10% to Ranged & Ranged strength | |
Mage | +30% to Magic attack bonus |
In addition to 1 of these 3 helmets the player also needs to wear 3 of the 4 below listed items:
- (Elite) Void knight robe top
- (Elite) Void knight robe bottom
- Void knight gloves
- Void knight deflector (in addition this item requires a Conquest rating of 1250 to purchase)
Note: Unfortunately, the Mace and Seal do not contribute to get the set effect. However, the Mace can be used to cast Claws of Guthix with even more damage too (+10%), therefore it can still be regarded as quite useful.
Also note: The higher the combat skill the more effective this set will be. Certainly at maximum levels in a combat style, the Void Knight set of that style becomes very powerful.
Advised setup:
- You could use a Deflector and better gloves such as Barrows gloves with the set. This can yield higher hits than an armour set composed of a Helmet of Neitiznot, Bandos chestplate, Bandos tassets, and a Dragonfire shield, which is popular for attempting to generate a maximum hit. Note that an Elite Void setup also has a higher Prayer bonus.
- Or the harder, but preferred option: a deflector and a better top (like the royal dragonhide body or a piece of Sacred clay body).
- If possible use the Elite parts (adding Prayer bonus), combining Regular parts with Elite parts will still give you the set effects.
- If using a ranged Void Deflector set with Swift gloves ( Reward from the Dominion tower ), Dragon bolts (e) and the Rigour prayer, it's possible to hit well over 1100 damage in PvP situations ( The gloves provide a chance to fire a second shot ). This is potentially devastating, even though the chance is rare.
Popular uses
Void Knight Equipment is popular in the Wilderness and other PvP situations, where the extra damage caused by the set effect can be very useful for player killing, and because it is possible to switch between helmets quickly for the effects without having to switch between a lot of equipment. It is also a favourite amongst rangers when training, because its bonuses allows players to hit higher and reduce training time.
Also for Barrows runs the set may be appreciated, as it can switch between combat styles easily adapting to the brother's weaknesses.
The set can be used to speed up Slayer tasks when a (Full) Slayer helmet isn't a priority. For example when fighting undead, a Salve amulet (e) can be used for melee boosts instead of the helmet.
Also note that the boost to Ranged accuracy is 10%, on Slayer tasks the Focus sight and Full slayer helmet will give 15% and 16.6% accuracy boost, respectively.
Combat style | Paired with | Pro/Advantage | Con/Disadvantage | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Melee | Godswords, Dragon Defender or Dragonfire shield |
High Attack: tremendous accuracy High Strength: Significantly higher than that of Bandos armour, especially at higher levels. |
High loss to range and melee defence, especially when compared to higher leveled armour | Using a Deflector is not advised, because of the ability to use the set bonus with 2-handed weapons, and potentially better items for the shield slot itself. However, if you wish, you may use an abyssal whip or a chaotic weapon and using Culinaromancer's gloves 10 or Goliath Gloves to fill in the missing slot. |
Ranged |
Gray/Red chinchompas for effective training or other good training weapons, for less expenses. |
Boosts Ranged damage substantially, resulting in much higher max hits. The 10% bonus to ranged reduces the impact of the loss of ranged accuracy stat on other armours such as Black d'hide |
Loss of Ranged accuracy (degree of loss depends on user's ranged level) with a slight Defense loss, compared to Black d'hide armour; considerably less of a problem when fighting things that are weak to Ranged | If using Deflector: a Crossbow or other one-handed ranged weapon + a Royal d'hide body, Armadyl Chestplate, or Pernix body |
Magic | Tome of frost, Arcane stream necklace, and a Staff of light or Chaotic staff: (+41 or 42 accuracy and +30% or +35% Magic damage) | A general increase in overall Defensive stats, especially ranged in which its defence is far higher than all magic armour, most of which gives zero or even negative bonuses. | Affects Magic accuracy based on the user's level; a higher-level mage may find their Magic accuracy to be boosted, while a lower level mage may experience a loss in Magic accuracy. This is considerably less of a problem when fighting things that are weak to Magic | If using Deflector: an Ahrim's robe top, Ganodermic poncho, or Virtus robe top |
Please note that at the higher levels in the chosen combat skill (Melee, Ranged, Magic) the sets start becoming more and more effective, as briefly stated above.
Strategy for Obtaining
Most people would agree that Void Knight Equipment is one of the best armour sets, as it costs no coins. It does however cost Commendation Points, which could be obtained from Pest Control or Conquest.
Getting Void Knight Equipment
In total, a full set with the Mace without Seal costs 1100 Commendation points. However, a more popular method is to exchange 850 points for the top, bottom, gloves or deflector, and 1 helmet. This means if the player were to get the whole set with Pest Control (except the seal), it would take them at least 550 games on the easy boat, 367 games on the medium boat, and 275 games on the hard boat.
After completing The Void Stares Back, players can upgrade regular Bottom (and Top) to its Elite version (for a price of 100 Commendations each, though part of the quest's reward is receiving an Elite top).
Image | Equipment | Commendations cost |
Helmet | 200 (each) | |
Top | 250 | |
File:Void Knight robe.png | Bottom | 250 |
Gloves | 150 | |
Mace | 250 | |
Deflector | 150 (with 1250 Conquest rating) | |
File:Void seal.png | Seal | 10 |
The elite version of the robes gives all defence the normal versions gives, while also adding a +4 prayer bonus (per piece), as well as an extra +15 to summoning defence (Bottom robe only).
Gaining Commendations
Players who wish to get the top, bottom, gloves, and one helmet can complete the following number of games for the set:
Lander type | # Games | Time (hh:mm) |
---|---|---|
Novice | 425 | 14:10 |
Intermediate | 284 | 9:25 |
Veteran | 213 | 7:00 |
Note: This is only accurate, when, all games are won, and take 2 minutes per game, these are minimum estimates, showing the best case scenario. There will always be some losses, and each loss will mean at least 2 minutes has been added to the time needed. Also, higher-level landers sometimes (perhaps often) do not fill up as quickly as the novice lander, so extra time per game (up to 5 minutes) may be required waiting for a lander to fill. The novice lander leaves every 30 seconds (which can occur on busy Pest Control worlds). In this case, a wait of 1 minute 30 seconds for an intermediate lander or a wait of 2 minutes 30 seconds for a veteran lander wipes out the time advantage of the higher landers.
- An alternative to this is by playing Conquest as it is often much faster, though Jagex has stated that the rate is approximately equal between the two minigames. You get commendation points whether you win or lose in Conquest, which is an advantage since you have to win Pest Control to get points. However, it is generally accepted that playing the combat-oriented Pest Control is far more simple to the Player versus player chess games Conquest offer.
Costume Room
A full set of Void Knight armour (3 pieces: robe top, robe bottom, and gloves) can be stored in the armour case found in the costume room of a player-owned house. Each of the 3 helmets can also be stored there separately, making it a bank account space saver. One can withdraw them at any time.
However, you cannot store full elite, merely the top and bottom.

Trivia
- The Ranged Void Knight armour originally conferred a 15% bonus towards Ranged attack and strength; however, this was soon "corrected", but since there is now a boost to both range strength and your range level (which boosts equally to range strength), you will receive a 20% damage bonus.
- Even after the 6th of March graphical update the purchase interface for void knight equipments still shows the old sprite. This only affects the Ranger helmet if the player is on minimal quality
- The specific level of '42' required in most skills is probably a reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, in which '42' is the answer to the meaning of life and to the great question.
- The Void Knight equipment has received 2 graphical updates up to date. The first being the 3 March update, the second being the 5 September update.
