The Iron platebody is the second weakest platebody in free-to-play, being stronger than the Bronze platebody. Level 33 Smithing and 5 iron bars are required to smith an Iron platebody by using an iron bar on an anvil with a hammer in your inventory or toolbelt, granting 125 Smithing experience. Like the bronze platebody, it has no requirement to be worn, so it is the best platebody for both new players and melee pures with level 1 Defence. For players training Ranged or Magic, an iron platebody is not a good choice due to its crippling negative bonus in those skills.
It is also the tertiary ingredient used in making iron titan pouches. It is an item used in clue scrolls.
Since iron items are over-produced, the best way to get rid of them is by selling them to the stores. If the stock number in a store is less than 10, it is worth selling, as price is higher than low alching using Explorer's ring.
With a Pack Yak, it is possible to achieve rates of 95k to 100k smithing experience per hour. It is also worth noting that the Scroll of efficiency, bought as a reward from Dungeoneering can increase the items made per trip due to its bar saving effect.
Players may receive iron platebodies from opening a box of summoning ingredients, a possible reward from the Familiarisation Distraction and Diversion.
