The Iron chainbody is the second weakest chainbody in RuneScape, and can be worn by a player with level 1 Defence. It, along with a Bronze Medium Helmet, is required to get into the Black Knights' Fortress because they comprise the primary armour of Faladian guards and other guards around Gielinor. An Iron chainbody's crush defence rating of +19 greatly exceeds that of an Iron platebody(+12), so it is recommended for pures training on monsters that attack with crush, such as Monks.

This chainbody is commonly used by low levelled rangers in PvP combat because it has no negative ranged attack bonus.

• A player with 26 Smithing can make the chainbody by using three iron bars on an anvil with a hammer in their inventory or toolbelt, granting 75 smithing experience.
