The bearhead is obtained upon defeating The Kendal during the Mountain Daughter quest. Along with the Corpse of woman, it is proof Asleif is dead. Unlike other items, the bearhead has not been given a graphical update. If lost you can speak to Hamal the Chieftain to obtain another bearhead for free. You do not have to fully complete the quest to equip the bearhead. The bearhead has roughly the same stats as a black full helm and has a good magic defence bonus.
The bearhead also has the highest defensive bonuses for a 1 Defence headgear item making it good for some situations if you don't want to risk high valuable headgear. This also makes it very popular for level 1 defence pures. It is also popular on the forums, where many avatars wear it. The quest in which you obtain it from, Mountain Daughter, gives 1000 attack experience and 2000 prayer experience. Take this into account if you are a pure and wish to do the quest.
The extremely low weight and good defence (particularly the magic defence) makes the bearhead the good for many tasks, such as ZMI altar, Abyss and all quests below hard or master.
