A player wearing the Elite black armour set.

Elite black armour was introduced on 26 November 2008. Parts of the set are dropped by the Elite Black Knights that are encountered during the quest While Guthix Sleeps. Level 40 defence is required to wear this armour.Elite black armour is slightly weaker than Rune armour.

Elite black armour can be used in place of normal black armour when attacking the Tormented wraith.

The quest While Guthix Sleeps does NOT need to be completed or even started to wear this armour. Buying the armour set costs more than the total cost of each individual part, so most players buy each piece separately.

The set consists of:

Trivia

  • On March 06, 2012, the elite black armour was updated and it became in high demand. Even when players tried to buy the set for large amounts on the Grand Exchange, none could be purchased.
  • When first released, many players dropped this armour because they thought they could easily obtain more. Because of this, sets were sold for millions after players realised that they could not complete the quest While Guthix Sleeps without two full sets and it was not easy to get more.
  • Before the graphical update of 6 March 2012, a full set Elite black armour looked similar to a full set of Gothic medieval armour. The helm looked very similar to a Great helm.
  • The current Black armour (including Elite) has horns that look similar to the horns of Demons (unlike the horns on Fremmenik helms that seem to resemble cow-like) a race frequently seen in the ranks of Zamorak's army, in which the Black knights are Zamorakian human followers.
  • The horns also slightly resemble the symbol of Zamorak.
  • The Elite black armour's post graphic update appearance also resembles the power armour worn by Chaos Space Marines from the Warhammer 40K tabletop games.
  • On 8 April 2009, Jagex stated in the forums that elite black armour can now be stored in the costume room of a player owned house.
  • Inside of a player's armor case located in the POH's costume room the elite black armour is still depicted as it was before the graphical update.
  • It once cost a lot more and was treated as trimmed armour; now it is commonly used by members who do not have the money to buy any better armour, and this set is more "stylish" than rune full.
  • As this armor is popular with lower level players, some people see it as a "noob armour," as it effectively has no quest requirements, and has significantly less defense against crush attacks, while not giving much compensation in other defences - compared with rune full.
