A chaotic rapier is a one-handed stabbing weapon with the same attack speed as scimitars and the Abyssal Whip. It is a reward from the Dungeoneering skill. The rapier requires an Attack level of 80 to wield. At least two million Dungeoneering experience is required to attain the 200,000 tokens needed to purchase the rapier, making it one of the few Dungeoneering rewards which players could have enough tokens to afford by the time they reach the level requirement. If players complete the Sagas and redo them several times, they should have no problem getting the tokens required at the required level. It does not degrade when dropped. It is usually the first chaotic someone would purchase due to its reputation.
When using a combination of Dungeoneering tokens and coins to recharge the weapon, the rapier has a cost of approximately 13.33 coins and 1.33 tokens per attack. If the weapon is recharged using solely money, it has a cost of 133.33 coins per attack (assuming you are using the rapier constantly).
Once the Chaotic rapier's charge is used up it will change to Chaotic rapier (broken). It looks the same as a fixed rapier and is still wieldable (when it breaks it stays in your weapons slot), but has no bonuses.
The chaotic rapier has a high stab bonus so it is very useful for any monster weak to stabbing attacks, such as dragons, giants, 'Rum'-pumped crabs(although a brackish blade deals bonus damage and hits harder against them) and many other slayer monsters. It's considered by many players to be the best weapon for training slayer in the game, as it can deal a large amount of damage per second. Under perfect circumstances a chaotic rapier can hit a maximum of 923 in Castle Wars, 710 while slaying Ice Strykewyrms (because of the +40 damage effect of the Fire cape and while wearing a Berserker ring (i)), 716 slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon, and 709 elsewhere. In addition, the chaotic rapier is only one handed, which gives it an advantage over the more commonly used Zamorakian spear, given the ability to wield a shield or defender. Another reason to choose this weapon is because it has the same attack speed as an Abyssal whip and has 19 more strength bonus and a higher accuracy than the whip.
Warning: As with all chaotic items, players will not receive a warning message when attempting to drop their chaotic rapier.

Chaotic rapier vs. Chaotic longsword
There has been a lot of controversy over whether the chaotic longsword or the chaotic rapier is the better weapon. The longsword, of course, has a higher attack and strength bonus than the rapier, approximately 19% more strength and 33% more accuracy, however the longsword has an attack speed of 5 while the rapier has a speed of 6, making the rapier 0.6 seconds faster, or 20% faster, yielding more frequent hits than the chaotic longsword. Due to these differences, it is commonly accepted that both are excellent weapons with their own advantages and disadvantages, in particular the longsword has a slightly higher stab bonus than the rapier, making it more versatile and more useful when fighting dragons or other players with ganodermic. The rapier, being faster than the longsword, means that if you miss or don't hit well you get an almost immediate second hit, making the rapier deal more damage in the same space of time to targets with low - medium defence. The longsword however is a more reliable weapon in terms of if the weapon will hit, and how much it will hit. On the other hand high level armours such as Torva, Bandos, and Barrows are more resistant to stab than slash.
In a simple explanation, the longsword is generally more suitable against high defence opponents such as bosses, while the rapier on the other hand is more efficient for slayer and other situations against creatures with low-medium defence. Overall, the general consensus is as follows; the rapier would be the best choice when slaying and using it for everyday use in many places, while the longsword would be a better choice if you are into killing high levelled bosses.
Trivia
- It should be noted that the 10 hours of combat that all chaotic items last for, are measured in 1 game tick (600 ticks per 1%) per attack made AND received. It is thus possible to have your Chaotic items degrade at faster rates if you are under attack from multiple enemies, or get attacked by enemies with fast attack rates like Scarab swarms.
- The Chaotic rapier used to cost 400,000 Dungeoneering tokens before the 21 April 2010 update.
- The Chaotic rapier will protect over items worth less than 20,000,000 coins if you die in the wilderness with it, although it only drops 100k coins.
- Chaotic rapiers, along with all other chaotic weapons/shields, will stack in the bank as long as they are on the same charge. For example, two chaotic rapiers with 35% charge and 67% charge will not stack, but two chaotic rapiers with 67% will.
