The chaotic longsword is the most powerful longsword available as a reward for the Dungeoneering skill. It requires 80 Attack and 80 Dungeoneering to wield. At least two million Dungeoneering experience (equivalent to level 80 Dungeoneering) is required to obtain the 200,000 tokens necessary to purchase the longsword from the rewards trader.
The chaotic longsword's slash and strength bonuses are high enough that it is not only the strongest longsword in the game, but is also the strongest one-handed melee weapon in the game, excluding certain Dungeoneering-only weapons. Because it is one-handed, it may be combined with an off-hand item. When used with a dragon defender, the slash accuracy surpasses that of godswords by 16 points, and the strength bonus is lower by 6. The chaotic longsword also has a faster attack speed than godswords by one speed classification. It is a popular weapon for killing bosses, player-vs-player combat, and training Slayer or other combat skills. Under ideal circumstances, this weapon can hit up to 1005 in Castle Wars, and 777 in Kuradal's Dungeon.
Warning: As with all chaotic items, players will not receive a warning message when attempting to drop their chaotic longsword.

Degrading and recharging
After approximately 10 hours of combat, the chaotic longsword will run out of charges and will require recharging by the rewards trader at Daemonheim. Additionally, when first purchased, the longsword will have a 20% charge. Repairs are made incrementally in 1% portions, and the cost of recharging can be paid in two ways: Coins, or a combination of coins and Dungeoneering tokens.
- 99% charged – 20,000 coins or 2,000 coins and 200 tokens.
- 90% charged – 200,000 coins or 20,000 coins and 2,000 tokens.
- 20% charged (After buying) – 1,600,000 coins or 160,000 coins and 16,000 tokens.
- 0% charged (No charges) – 2,000,000 coins or 200,000 coins and 20,000 tokens.
The longsword can be recharged at any time provided it is 99% charged or less.
Chaotic longsword vs. Chaotic rapier
There has been a lot of controversy over whether the chaotic longsword or the chaotic rapier is the better weapon. The longsword, of course, has a higher attack and strength bonus than the rapier, however the longsword has an attack speed of 5 while the rapier has a speed of 6, making the rapier 0.6 seconds faster, yielding more frequent hits than the chaotic longsword. It is commonly accepted that both are excellent weapons with their own advantages and disadvantages, but it is worth to note that the longsword has a slightly higher stab bonus than the rapier, making it more versatile and more useful when fighting dragons or other players with ganodermic. The rapier, being faster than the longsword, means that if you miss or don't hit well you get an almost immediate second hit, making the rapier deal much more damage in the same space of time to targets with low - medium defence.
Trivia
- It should be noted that the 10 hours of combat that all chaotic items last for, are measured in 1 game tick (600 ticks per 1%) per attack made AND received. It is thus possible to have your Chaotic items degrade at faster rates if you are under attack from multiple enemies, or get attacked by enemies with fast attack rates like Scarab swarms.
- Before an update on 21 April 2010, the chaotic longsword's cost was 400,000 tokens.
- Assuming a perfect 10 hours of use, a chaotic longsword will last exactly 60,000 game ticks in combat before recharging. As it attacks once every 5 game ticks, it can be used for 12,000 attacks before depleting 100% of its charge. This works out to a cost of 166.667 coins per attack, or 16.67 coins and 1.667 Dungeoneering tokens per attack.
- The chaotic longsword is the only longsword that did not receive the sound-effect update.
- Chaotic longswords, along with all other chaotic weapons/shields, will stack in the bank as long as they are on the same charge. For example, two chaotic longswords with 35% charge and 67% charge will not stack, but two chaotic longswords with 67% will.
- Due to an update on the 17 July 2012, along with the Solomon's General Store and the 10 Year Veteran Cape, you now do not hold the Chaotic Longsword across your body, you now hold it slightly to the right of you, just like every other longsword in the game.
