The Keris is a dagger obtained after defeating the Giant Scarab at the end of the Contact! quest. Players will need 50 Attack to wield this item. If lost, another can be bought from Osman for 20,000 coins.

The keris was created by worshippers of Elidinis, in order to smite the followers of Scabaras. Like the dragon dagger used to be held it is held in a reverse grip. It has a special bonus against scarab creatures (Scarab mage and Locust riders) and kalphites (see Kalphite Lair); on rare occasions it may score a "vicious blow" against an opponent, tripling the damage the player would have done. When this happens the player will receive a message in the chat box that reads: "You slip your dagger through a chink in the creature's chitin, landing a vicious blow." The keris can also be tipped with various types of weapon poison (however, like all other non-spear poisonable weapons, Karambwan poison cannot be used on the Keris).

This dagger is one of the strongest weapons in RuneScape when used against the above listed creatures, hitting up to 1700+ life points (with 99 strength, a slayer assignment of Kalphites, a Black mask / Slayer helmet, Amulet of Strength, Vesta's chainbody, Vesta's plateskirt, Dragon boots, Goliath gloves, Berserker ring (i), Dragonfire shield, Completionist cape, the Keris equipped, an overload, and the turmoil curse activated.) It is because of this that the keris is often considered one of the best daggers in RuneScape, along with the dragon dagger. This special effect is somewhat rare though, so some players still prefer to use strong stabbing weapons like the Brackish Blade or Chaotic Rapier instead on Kalphite tasks for their higher accuracy and average damage.

Note: You will lose the dagger upon death, and must purchase a replacement from Osman for 20k.

Trivia

• The keris is based on the south-east Asian dagger called a kris or keris.
