Waterfiends are the elemental cousins of the Pyrefiend and the Icefiend, and may be assigned as a slayer task by Duradel/Lapalok and Kuradal. They are found in the Ancient Cavern which can be accessed by completing Barbarian Training to the pyre ship stage. Waterfiends attack with both magic and magical ranged attacks, both of which hit reasonably often, and can damage up to 119. Both of these attacks have a very short attack range: only four squares. Waterfiends are also found in the Chaos Tunnels and within the Ghorrock Fortress during The Temple at Senntisten.
Waterfiends have a very high charm drop rate, especially for crimson charms (around 75%). For this reason, they are targeted by many players who wish to level up summoning quickly, making them more popular than other crimson charm droppers (demons, dust devils, etc.).
Waterfiends have extremely high defence against slashing and piercing attacks. They are weaker against crush attacks, but even then their defence is good. They are immune to poison.

Trivia
- Waterfiends had an unannounced graphical update on 5 June 2008 - with this, some of their drops changed. Then, later that day, a system update after Smoking Kills was updated to remove the drop change, only to be changed once again to fix some bugs and change some of the drops that were mentioned on the forums.
- Due to it being a form of water, it is weak to Crush attacks instead of more commonly used melee weapons. This is because stabbing and slashing weapons are generally thin or pointy, and subsequently don't cause as much impact against water as something that is either heavier or has a broader surface area, such as a maul. Same basic principles as throwing a rock into a river to make a splash versus throwing a stick in.
- If a familiar attacks and the waterfiend shifts attention to the attacking familar, it will have a similar attack animation as their elemental cousins. The attack is also mage-based. No projectiles are shown when the waterfiend attacks a familar.
- Waterfiends have a different examine text compared to their elemental cousins, the Pyrefiends and Icefiends.
