Undead troll

The Undead troll is an undead version of a troll. Being undead, they are vulnerable to the effects of a Salve amulet or the Crumble undead spell. They can be also killed for a troll slayer assignment. They are in Lucien's camp, a multicombat area, and are mixed with Elite Black Knights, who are aggressive unless the player is wearing Dagon'hai robes or Elite black armour. To access Lucien's camp, you need to have at least made some progress in the While Guthix Sleeps quest. The undead trolls wielding pickaxes will never be aggressive, while the unarmed trolls are aggressive in the same fashion as the Elite Black Knights.

It is time consuming to get to Lucien's camp. While the undead trolls's drops are moderately profitable, there are no unique or very valuable drops, so few players go there to kill them. Although blue charms are their most common charm drop, on average they only drop a charm every ten kills, making them very bad for charm collecting. Some players on slayer assignments for 'trolls' sometimes, for a change of pace, attack these trolls rather than Mountain trolls, but others contend Ice trolls are as good for drops and easier to reach and slay.

Since undead trolls are very far from a bank and difficult to access, some form of long-term healing is advised, such as a familiar or the Bones to Peaches spell for longer stays. Players who choose to heal with Guthan's set must be careful, since all the knights and unarmed trolls will become aggressive upon equipping the armour, and Lucien's camp is a multicombat area.

Trolls are a common assignment from Chaeldar, Undead trolls may count as one.

Habitat

The undead trolls live in Lucien's camp. To access this camp, players need to go to Surok's room at the end of the Black Knights' Fortress dungeon, and then activate the Strange teleorb while having in inventory a death rune and a law rune, which will be used up.

Trivia

  • Undead trolls were referred to long before being added to the game. They were first mentioned in Nestor Peregrine's Explorer's notes found within Keldagrim Library. It was speculated that the trolls were to be involved in the God Wars Dungeon update, but they did not appear until the While Guthix Sleeps quest more than a year later.
  • The trolls don't respawn like regular monsters, instead the Undead mages that are found in the area summon new trolls.
  • On 29 March 2010 Undead Trolls experienced a graphical glitch, where they had no animations of any kind. They slid around on the ground instead of walking and attacking. This has been fixed as of 24 November 2010 along with the Herblore Habitat update. You can no longer see them sliding around the area next to the Elite Black Knights from the Wilderness.
  • Though that common trolls drop big bones, undead trolls drop regular bones.
  • Its examine text is likely a reference to the common belief that the undead eat brains, and trolls are named after the first thing they eat or say.
  • The trolls design is similar to the new design of troll shown in the 2011 Quest, The King of Dwarves.
