Mutated bloodveld are first encountered during the Legacy of Seergaze Quest whilst passing through the Meiyerditch Dungeon on the way to the Blood altar. This monster can be killed instead of regular Bloodveld for slayer tasks, as it gives more slayer experience. They have very high life points (level 146 ones have more life points than a black dragon), but very low defence, making it a very good choice for training. Safe spots when using non-melee attack can also be used.
Little is known about this monster's origins. They may have been created by the Vampyres as part of their research on Haemalchemy, but were sealed with the laboratories when it was discovered that vampyres could survive without the consumption of blood .
At a glance, the level 146 mutated bloodveld may be distinguished from their level 126 brethren by their more blunt tongues, the bolts on their face and legs, and the lack of fur on their head.
Habitat
Access
Mutated bloodveld may be found in the Meiyerditch Dungeon, accessible during the Legacy of Seergaze quest. Refer to the map for directions through the passage. It can be accessed in five ways, roughly on order of 'fastest to slowest':
- One of the fastest methods is to use a Blood altar teleport tablet acquired by spending 45 Tokens points from the The Great Orb Project. On the map: Red circle, in the middle. An alternative would be the Wicked Hood's blood altar teleport.
- Another way is to use Drakan's medallion (one of the rewards from the Branches of Darkmeyer quest) and teleporting to Meiyerditch Laboratories, then from there just follow the path to the south to get to mutated bloodvelds. (However it takes up either your amulet slot or 1 spot in your inventory.) On the map: Orange dot, at the bottom. Banking can be done by using the medallion to bank at Burgh de Rott (does not use a charge) and then returning to the Labs (also not using up a charge).
- Another way is to go through the Abyss and the Blood altar. However, this will result in becoming skulled and losing all Prayer points (unless a Forinthry bracelet or Abyssal parasite is used). On the map, also: Red circle, in the middle.
- An alternate method of access is through the hidden passage behind the Hair of the Dog pub in Canifis. This passage passes though Ivandis Seergaze's tomb and past the Blood altar to the bloodveld cavern. This route is safer than through the Abyss (though it might be just as fast), however this requires level 65 Agility (obstacle on the way). On the map: Blue dot, at the top.
- The last method of accessing the mutated bloodveld is from the Meiyerditch end of the Meiyerditch Dungeon, through the Laboratory. This method is not recommended, unless the player is unable to use the suggested methods above. This takes a lot longer than any of the methods listed above, since the player would need to go though the whole of Burgh de Rott and Meiyerditch. On the map: Green square, at the bottom (though the starting point would have to be Burgh de Rott).
Safe spots
Mutated bloodveld can be Ranged or Halberded (Magic is unadvised) safely by employing one of several safe spots located in the cavern. The various tables located throughout the cavern provide a barrier that will provide cover. A Dwarf multicannon may be used here.
Slayer
Slayers assigned to kill Bloodveld may kill Mutated Bloodveld as an alternative. The advantages of killing the mutated variety are that the dungeon allows a cannon to be set up, so that multiple Mutated Bloodveld can be killed at the same time (therefore making the assignment quicker), and of course - they are higher levelled and have more LP so, as a result, give more slayer experience per kill (note that there are two separate levels of mutated bloodveld, each giving different experience). If a player wishes to use a cannon to slay them, it is advised that they use the Protect from Melee prayer or hide in a safespot, as they will be attacked by up to seven mutated bloodveld simultaneously, and this can be very damaging. If a player has any Ardougne cloak and Drakan's medallion the player can use the cloak to teleport to the Ardougne Monastery, recharge prayer points and teleport back to the Meiyerditch Laboratories with the medallion.
Another important thing to note is that they have quick regeneration rate of HP, kill it fast. If you are having trouble killing it and losing time and food, bring combat potions : Super-attack potion, super strength or overload and supportive equipments like: Enchanced Excalibur, Saradomin godsword .
If the player chooses to fight these without using a safe spot, all 3 level 146 mutated bloodveld in the room will attack you at once. This, however, is an advantage because the player has access to a never-ending stream of enemies to attack. When they are no longer aggressive, the player can run west and kill one of the normal bloodveld in that room and return to find the mutated bloodveld are aggressive again.
The player can combine his attack with a Summoning Familiar and/or a cannon for maximum effectiveness. It is never recommended to use food instead of prayer if the player is facing these head on. Mutated Bloodvelds do not drop multiple bones at a time, but still in the unlikely case that one wants to use food anyway it is recommended to bring Bones to peaches tablets if you are staying at Bloodvelds for a long period of time.
There is a tinderbox and 3 log respawn in the room which can be used to cook the raw cave eel that they commonly drop in bundles of 3.
Mutated bloodveld seem to restore their life points at an extremely fast rate when not engaged in combat.
Mutated bloodveld are quite weak to Magic, and can be quickly and efficiently slain with a polypore staff.
