Cockatrice are Slayer monsters that require level 25 Slayer to kill. They frequently drop limpwurt roots, which is their main food source, used in the Herblore skill. A Mirror shield is necessary when fighting these monsters. Players without 20 defence would not be assigned these as 20 defence is required to wield the shield.

In the quest Fur 'n' Seek, cockatrice skin must be collected and cleaned for the Odd Old Man.

Strengths and weaknesses

Cockatrices in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon.

A mirror shield must be used when fighting these. If a regular shield (or no shield at all) is equipped, then the cockatrice will shoot out beams from its eyes quickly reducing combat stats (including agility) to dangerously low levels (1/4 of the player's original levels e.g. 15/60) and causes rapid damage for up to 110 life points per hit (it does more damage with higher levels). They always hit a fixed amount. They have few life points and do not hit substantially when mirror shields are equipped. Their attack speed is the same as a scimitar. Slash attacks seem to be accurate against them. It also appears they have very little defence against magic attacks.
