The Dragon halberd's special attack hitting twice on a moss giant.

Halberds (colloquially hallys) are long two-handed weapons with blades similar to axes and handles made up of long poles. While halberds are among the slowest weapons, halberds can hit opponents two squares away, as opposed to the one square away most melee weapons can hit. A player may only wield a dragon halberd once they have completed the Regicide quest. The other halberds can be worn anytime, so long as you have the right attack level (and with some the right strength level) to wield them. Most halberds may be bought from the Quartermaster at the Tyras Camp in Isafdar, while the White halberd can only be bought from Sir Vyvin in Falador, or bought from other players.

Halberds can be used in "safe spots", or locations where a player can hit a monster and not get hit back, for example across a gate or fence. This is common strategy used for cost effective melee training, because if done correctly it requires no food for healing.

If you are planning on killing monsters where there are no rocks or obstacles, it would be a good idea to get a reasonable defence level before hand as the halberd is the one of the slowest weapons and your enemy would have more time to hit more damage. One good safe spot is in the Tzhaar city near the gold and silver ore area.

Trivia

  • Despite being called halberds, these lack the defining top spike and back hook of real-life halberds, and are thus more similar to the bardiche or Lochaber Axe.
