The Warhammer is a type of slow and heavy one-handed melee weapon that employs the crush style of attack. They are a punishingly accurate crushing weapon, with no alternative attack. On the right targets, the crushing attack delivers a real punch - scorpions seem to go down quickly with a warhammer, as would anything in plate armour.
One of the drawbacks of warhammers is their low attack speed. Because of this, most players choose to use Battleaxes since they hit harder and have more combat choices. Statius's warhammer has a faster attack speed than regular warhammers, making it more desirable.
Warhammers (particularly rune) are sometimes used by players with high attack level on the F2P version of the Clan Wars activity, for the fact that Crush attacks hit easily through rune armour.
Warhammers are one of just two standard melee weapons to still not have a Dragon version, the other being the Shortsword—both of which are fairly unpopular, even in F2P. Jagex however has announced that the dragon warhammer will be released, but it has not been said when.
Players can buy a variety of warhammers from Vigr's Warhammers in Keldagrim West.
Warhammers are a very uncommon sight among most players, even in F2p worlds, as they are seen as inferior weapons by most players, who choose either faster weapons such as the scimitar, or more powerful weapons such as the battleaxe or Two handed sword.
Warhammers that can be used in Daemonheim dungeons have slightly faster attack speed.
It is recommended to only use the warhammer if your opponent is wielding a 2h with platebody or ranging with a platebody. Other than that, the one-handed wielders will usually be wielding a kiteshield and rangers wielding chainmail, which mostly blocks the crush attack of the warhammer.
