The Rune javelin is a members only Ranged throwing weapon that is rarely used for combat due to two main reasons; low exp rate per hour and high price per javelin. To wield one the player must have at least 40 Ranged. The rune javelin is one handed, so it can be wielded with a shield or god book for protection. The rune javelin is the second strongest javelin, the strongest being Morrigan's javelin. However, these are rarely used due to the fact that yew longbows equipped with rune arrows are both cheaper and stronger than rune javelins.

Rune javelins, like all the lesser-metal javelins, rarely sell at all on the Grand Exchange. To make money from them, players may cast high-level alchemy on them, as the return for doing so is acceptable. Players can also use the high or low level alchemy capability of the Explorer's Ring on them, as this does not consume any runes. Players without high alchemy or the ring can sell them in stores, although this method gives the least coins per javelin.

The Tribal Salesman in the Ranging Guild will purchase Rune Javelins starting at their high alch value.
