Skeletons are undead monsters found in various locations around RuneScape. As they are undead, they are highly vulnerable to the Crumble Undead spell. The skeleton class is very weak against crush attacks, and the Skeleton is no different. A Salve amulet or Salve amulet (e) provide a Strength and accuracy boost of +15% and +20% respectively against Skeletons. Many skeletons are aligned with the god Zamorak, but others have absolutely nothing to do with him.
A notable variety of skeleton, Giant skeletons generally have significantly higher combat levels and drop big bones. These skeletons are found in around three locations. Level 79 giant skeletons can be found in the Shadow Dungeon, which can be accessed using a Ring of visibility at a certain point during the Desert Treasure quest. Level 100 giant skeletons are found in the Lair of Tarn Razorlor (dungeon), which is related to The Lair of Tarn Razorlor miniquest. Finally, giant skeletons can be found on occasion in Daemonheim. Within the Karamja Volcano, just outside Elvarg's lair, there are level 45 normal skeletons which appear to be the same size as giant skeletons.
Skeletons may also be purchased at level 70 Construction, to guard a players dungeon, (see Skeleton (POH)).
Special appearances
While doing the free-to-play quest The Restless Ghost, a level 13 Skeleton warlock will appear when the player picks up the muddy skull. It has 180 life points and a max hit of 20. Skeletons also appear across a great number of Members quests such as Smoking Kills and Missing my Mummy. There is also a mysterious skeleton which is said to have been spotted around RuneScape leading up to the 2008 Hallowe'en event.
Level 22 Skeleton guards can be purchased by players to patrol the Dungeon in their Player-owned house. It costs 50,000 coins per guard.
General Notes
Like most monsters in the Wilderness, all skeletons found throughout the Wilderness are aggressive to all players, regardless of level. The skeletons are known to have a higher rate of dropping some of the less common herbs, making them a good way to make some decent money.
Slayer alternatives
In addition to this generic type, when on a slayer assignment, the following alternatives are also available:
- Skeleton mages.
- Skeletal miners.
- Skeletal hands.
- Skeleton Fremenniks.
- Skeleton warlords.

- Skoblins.
The Skeleton guards in the dungeons of player-owned houses, however, cannot be killed for a skeleton slayer task.

Location by combat level
This table may be incomplete, as skeletons appear in a great many places. Also, a number of the locations have limited access such as being in members only areas, requiring quests to enter, requiring the ability to enter a guild, etc. Consider checking the location's description before going there to hunt skeletons.
Banking tips
Many skeleton locations are far from banks. For players wishing to slay skeletons and bank their drops, consider the following:
- The Draynor Sewers are moderately close to the Draynor Village bank.
- The Lair of Tarn Razorlor has a banker. However, using this dungeon requires the Haunted Mine quest, The Lair of Tarn Razorlor miniquest, and a 100 coin payment to the banker for each access to the bank.
- The skeleton cave in the Chaos Tunnels is easily accessed from entrance #1 to tunnels and is thus moderately close to the Edgeville bank. However, care should be taken in that entrance #1 is in low-level Wilderness and also enters the cave with rather dangerous Gargoyles. The tunnels are a multiway combat area, and aggressive Zombies in the cave with the skeletons may interfere with skeleton hunting.
- Skeletal Hands may also be slain in the Meiyerditch Dungeon if the player looking for good drops from skeletons.
Champions' Challenge
Skeletons are one of the races who have lesser champions in the Champions' Challenge activity. To fight the Skeleton Champion, the player must kill skeletons until one drops a Champion scroll, which is a very rare drop. Obtaining the scroll usually takes several hours of dedicated skeleton hunting, and is best done on lower level skeletons to increase the kill rate as much as possible.
