A player crafting a rune on the Runecrafting altar available in Daemonheim.

Runecrafting is used in Dungeoneering to craft runes, solve puzzles (like the magic construct), open skill doors and imbue staves to progress through the level. Crafting runes in Daemonheim provides 2% of the experience gained Runecrafting normally. There are no new runes in Daemonheim. For Runecrafting experience values, please see this page.

All players can craft runes, even if they haven't finished Rune Mysteries. Non-members can craft all types of runes except for astral runes, blood runes and soul runes. Members with the required runecrafting level (65 for death runes, 77 for blood runes) need not have completed any quests to be able to runecraft death runes / blood runes in dungeoneering.

Having level 27 (or 54 for group gatestone teleport) in Runecrafting would enable a player to create a gatestone using rune essence. In a team, assistance can be used to create gatestones for the anyone in the team, provided at least one person has level 27 in Runecrafting. Players cannot cast spells and assist at the same time.

IMPORTANT: Because of the Dungeoneering update on 19 August 2010, goldcrafting, an old method of making money in dungeons by runecrafting, can no longer be done because the sell price of air runes has been dropped to 1 gp each. A good alternative for members is to make staves, sell them, and buy more wood to make more staves. This is time consuming but gives a lot of experience in Runecrafting, Magic, and Fletching. Using this method with tangle gum branches to make a water staff, you only lose 60 coins per staff and each staff gives 9 Fletching, and 5.5 Runecrafting and Magic.

Opening Doors

A door requiring Runecrafting to open

Runecrafting in Dungeoneering allows players to imbue certain doors with energy that cannot be opened otherwise. These doors are found throughout the dungeons.

Combat Runes

In F2P, it is strongly recommended to have attained at least 35 or 65 Runecrafting. This makes using magic in combat a breeze, since the crafting of Chaos and Death is now possible in Daemonheim. Accompanied with any of the elemental staves, preferably a Fire Staff, relying on magic combat is a viable option.

Rune Level Xp Cost/XP
Mind 2 0.11   −454.5
Chaos 35 0.17   −294.1
Death 65 0.20   −250
Blood 77 0.21   −238.1

Law 54 0.19   −263.2

Staves

Options given when right clicking on the Runecrafting altar.

Please notice these staves can only be imbued if the staff is bought or made by fletching, thus only members can imbue all the staves higher than the Water Staff.

To obtain a staff, use a knife with some branches.

Trivia

  • The experience earned was accidentally increased instead of decreased, prompting a rollback.
  • Rune Mysteries does not have to be completed to train Runecrafting in Daemonheim.
