A Broken pickaxe (rune) was a rune pickaxe that had been broken in an exploding rock random event. Broken rune pickaxes could be fixed at Nurmof's Pickaxe Shop in the Dwarven Mine or at Bob's Brilliant Axes in south Lumbridge. The repair fee was 1100 coins.

As of the random event update, this item is now discontinued. All of these items in players' banks were turned back to regular pickaxes of the corresponding metal.

When Jagex stated that they will be removing the exploding rock random event, players flocked to the G.E. and the mining locations in order to obtain a broken rune pickaxe. Therefore, there was a sharp increase in the pickaxe's price because many players thought it would become rare. However, these players were sadly mistaken, and Jagex fixed all broken pickaxes.
