Torstol seeds can be planted in a herb patch in order to produce grimy torstols. This requires a Farming level of 85.
A nearby gardener will not watch over your growing torstol.
Torstol seeds can be obtained as a rare monster drop (see below), by looting a nature impling, by pickpocketing Master Farmers, or bought from the Vinesweeper minigame for 45000 points each.
Planting torstol seeds can be profitable, so therefore players are advised to make sure that the herbs do not die. Supercompost (or Fertile Soil spell) is strongly recommended, as this is the best way of reducing the chance of your herbs from becoming diseased, as it is not possible to water the patch or ask a farmer to tend the herbs.
Some players only grow Torstol in the disease-free herb patch on the Troll Stronghold 'roof' (unlocked after My Arm's Big Adventure) and fill the other herb patches with less expensive herbs to minimise potential losses. Using a Juju farming potion can also be useful to maximise the number of herbs harvested.
The following table shows the profit yield, assuming all the herbs and seeds are purchased/sold at the Grand Exchange for the guide price. If the herb dies, you will lose −274,040 coins.
Herb yield | Profit/loss | Herb yield | Profit/loss |
1 | −246,106 | 7 | −78,502 |
2 | −218,172 | 8 | −50,568 |
3 | −190,238 | 9 | −22,634 |
4 | −162,304 | 10 | 5,300 |
5 | −134,370 | 11 | 33,234 |
6 | −106,436 | 12 | 61,168 |
Note: Supercompost yields a minimum of 5 herbs.

Market
Torstol seeds have increased in price significantly in the Grand Exchange since the Herblore Update in October 2009 due to Torstol's use in making Overload potions. Torstol seeds currently cost Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "["., whereas in September 2009, Torstol seeds were worth about 17k each. In the same time frame, Clean Torstol weeds have increased in price from about 3k each to Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "[". each.
Farming Torstol has become more profitable than it used to be, but at the same time, risky, since herb crops can always die and the seeds have a high cost. The possible profit, however, had grown near Snapdragons and even surpassed it.
