Armour/Magic armour
Magic armours provide almost no Ranged and melee defence bonuses, but are used instead to harness the magic attacking ability of a mage, and to provide some magic defence bonuses. Most magic armours cannot be made by players. None of the following armour bonuses include bonuses from the related staff. Click on the links to see the main articles for more information.

Wizard robes
Blue,blue (gold), black

Wizards robes are the most common robes in free-to-play. Wizard robes consist of a hat, a robe-top and a robe-bottom. With the introduction of Fist of Guthix, some free-to-play players switched to Combat robes, as they give advanced magic attack bonuses. Wizard boots can be obtained from Treasure Trails, for members.
Elemental Workshop equipment
Armours from the Elemental Workshop are made using special bars. The item sets are, with increasing bonuses, elemental, mind, body, cosmic and chaos. Each set is unlocked during a quest in the Elemental Workshop quest series, except for cosmic and chaos, which are both unlocked during Elemental Workshop IV. In order to make elemental equipment, elemental ore must be smelted with coal into an elemental bar and smithed into armour on the workshop's anvils. The base bar for the other metal bars is a primed bar, which is received from operating four machines to modify an elemental bar on the level below. This prime bar may then be infused with mind, body, cosmic or chaos energy to create those bars, as learnt in the respective quests. The armour has a short animation when equipping, but does not offer great bonuses. In fact, the only bonuses are magic and summoning defence.
Runecrafter robes
Runecrafter robes may be bought from Wizard Elriss using Runecrafting Guild tokens. They offer poor defensive bonuses, but are the best non-degradable robes for non-members. In addition, their much more expensive master counterpart also offers bonuses to Runecrafting experience.
Fist of Guthix Robes
Druidic mage, Combat, Battle(m)
Hood, Robe Top, Robe Bottom
Fist of Guthix robes degrade like Barrows armour, but in a shorter 6 hours. Druidic mage robes increase the accuracy of binding spells. Combat and Battle robes have a chance of randomly providing any Mind, Chaos, Death or Blood runes while spellcasting. Many players criticised Battle robes, as they thought they were an unfit reward to the time spent gathering the tokens needed to buy and recharge them. Combat robes give the highest magic attack bonus in Free-to-Play (+16 from the top, bottom, and hood.)
Wicked robes(m)
The wicked robes set consists of three pieces of armour and a cape. All but the hood have weight-decreasing abilities as well as some poor magic bonuses. The robe top and bottoms and the cape enhance the special abilities of the wicked hood, which can be received from Tam McGrubor for free or bought from Wizard Finix's Runecrafting Shop using Runespan points. The hood allows one to generate pure essence at will (although a limited amount, counters are reset at midnight), and teleport to the altars of or generate a few runes of which the talisman was fed to the hood. Feeding it an omni-talisman results in all rune slots being unlocked, except for the soul rune. The robes can be recoloured using Runespan points or a mark called esteem can be added to them.
Hexcrest
The hexcrest is a ring worn around the head and may be received as a drop from Jungle strykewyrms. Although it offers poor bonuses, people often prefer to wear it when using magic on a slayer task, or attaching it to a full slayer helmet and wear that, as it gives a 20% bonus to magic damage, akin to the black mask and focus sight. When not on a slayer task, the hexcrest yields no additional effects.
Ghostly robes(m)
The fully translucent ghostly robes set is received in parts during the Curse of Zaros miniquest. It is not very good armour stat-wise and is usually only worn for its looks, often in combination with the shadow sword.
Polypore armour(m)
Mycelium, Fungal, Grifolic and Ganodermic armour are four armour sets from the Polypore Dungeon with increasing costs, requirements and stats, ganodermic armour being one of the best magical armours in game. They are created by using polypore flakes found in the dungeon on pieces of mycelium web armour. Pieces of the armours are quite expensive but very popular for activities such as the Barrows minigame.
Mystic robes(m)
Blue/White, White/Gold, Black/Red
Hat, Robe Top, Robe Skirt, Gloves (Mystic only), Boots (Mystic only)
Mystic robes are a popular medium-level magic armour. Mystic robes give a comparatively high magic attack and defence bonus, but nothing else. They are popular for safespot maging, and in Player-verses-Player combat due to their relatively low cost. Blue/White mystic robes can be bought in the Magic guild. White/Gold robes can be obtained by killing monsters in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon. Black/Red robes are dropped by monsters in the Slayer Tower.
Enchanted robes
Enchanted robes have identical bonuses to mystic robes, only their look is significantly different. They may only be received from Treasure Trails, or bought from other people or the Grand Exchange.
Sacred clay robes
Sacred clay armour can be bought from the rewards mystic with Stealing Creationpoints. As long as it has charges - the clay degrades. The armour and weapons may be changed into pieces of magic, ranged or melee armour and weapons at will. A more expensive shield may also be bought. The magic variant offers decent bonuses, but most players prefer to use mystic robes as they are cheaper.
Dagon'hai robes(m)
Dagon'hai robes are the robes worn by the Zamorakian Dagon'hai order. They are nearly identical to mystic robes in terms of stats, but having killed Bork at least once in the Chaos Tunnels is a requirement to wear them. In addition, they have a small (+4) prayer bonus, unlike the mystic robes, although their damage absorption is less. A set is obtained for free during While Guthix Sleeps, while searching Dark Squall's desk. Surok Magis and other members of the order wear these robes.
Necromancer gear
The necromancer robes basically are upgraded Dagon'hai robes. The upgrade is in the prayer bonus, which is +10, in stead of the +4 Prayer bonus of the Dagon'hai version. Any of the three pieces of Dagon'hai robes can be turned into necromancer robes by using a necromancer kit on them, along with ten pieces of fine cloth and level 85 Crafting. All of these items can be obtained from opening various chests in the Shade Catacombs under Mort'ton, but the necromancer kit itself is untradeable and can only be received from opening a chest with a gold key, effectively making level 80 Firemaking a requirement. Even so, the chances to get one are quite small, but they are increased if wearing a ring of wealth when opening the chest. In addition, gold keys become much more common if wearing Morytania legs 3 during the cremation of fiyr bodies.
Splitbark armour(m)
Helmet, Body, Legs, Gauntlets, Boots
Splitbark armour is a medium-level magic armour. They give significantly less magic attack bonus than Mystic robes, but they give some melee defence bonuses, unlike Mystic robes. They are not very common, as they are hard to make, and many players prefer Mystic robes.
Skeletal armour(m)
Helmet, Top, Bottoms, Gloves, Boots
Skeletal armour is a medium-level magic armour. They give slightly less magic attack and melee defence bonuses than Splitbark armour. This, combined with the increased cost, make it a very rare sight.
Farseer helm(m)
A Farseer helm is a medium-to-high-level magic helmet. It is the joint third best helmet for magic attack (with the Infinity hat, and Ahrim's hood), and is beaten by the Healer hat and Third-age mage hat. The Farseer helm is relatively popular, as it is cheaper than the Infinity hat and Third-age mage hat, is easier to obtain than the Healer hat, and does not degrade like Ahrim's hood. The Farseer helm also has significantly higher defence bonuses and is extremely popular due to the hybrid pvp.
Infinity robes(m)
Hat, Top, Bottoms, Gloves, Boots, Book (Shield)
Infinity robes are a reward purchasable from the Mage Training Arena activity. Infinity robes give a higher magic attack and defence boost than Mystic robes. However, Infinity robes are uncommon due to the time, effort and money needed to obtain them. The Mage's book is the shield that gives the third most powerful magic attack bonus, surpassed by the Farseer Kiteshield and by the Arcane spirit shield. The robes may be coloured at elemental runecrafting altars to give them a different look.
Dragonbone mage robes set
Pieces of the Dragonbone magic set can be made by using a dragonbone upgrade kit on a piece of the infinity robes set. This will make the item purple in colour as well as adding some bony spikes. It does not affect the bonuses. The kit can only be bought for several million coins off player or the Grand Exchange, or received as loot from the Queen Black Dragon.
Healer hat(m)
The Healer hat is a piece of member's only armour. To wear the hat the player must have at least 40 Defence. The healer hat can be obtained by exchanging 275 Honour Points in each role and defeating the Penance Queen from the Barbarian Assault minigame. Prior to the 19 January 2010 update, this hat had stats similar to a Farseer helm. This was later changed back on 1 February2010; it now has +1 more Magic attack than it did before the 19 January update. Healer hat exceeds the Farseer helm, Infinity hat and Ahrim's hood by 1 point of magic attack bonus.
God capes(m)
Saradomin (Blue/White), Guthix (Green/Teal), Zamorak (Black/Red)
The God capes are the best capes available for magic attack, and second, to the Fire cape, in magic defence. They can be earned from the Mage Arena activity. Many players use them for their high magic attack and ease of recovering them if lost, or against monsters with magic or magic-based attacks.
Lunar equipment(m)
Helmet, Torso, Legs, Gloves, Boots, Ring, Amulet, Cape, (Staff)
Lunar equipment is made during the Lunar Diplomacy quest. The full set, including the ring, amulet and staff, give slightly less magic attack bonus than Mystic robes - however, it gives melee defence bonuses similar to Splitbark armour, which makes it a popular choice for the Barrows activity.
Third-age mage armour(m)
Hat, Robe Top, Robe (Bottom), Amulet
Third-age mage robes are a high-level magic armour. Third-age mage robes are very rare, and therefore very expensive. They give a higher magic attack and defence bonus than Infinity robes, but a slightly smaller bonus than Ahrim's robes. They give also no other defence bonuses, unlike Ahrim's robes. Third-age mage robes are mainly used as a status symbol, rather than a practical set of robes. Third-age mage robes can be obtained from Treasure Trails, or by trading with another player.
Ahrim the Blighted's robes(m)
Hood, Robetop, Robeskirt, (Staff)
Ahrim's robes are high-level magic armour. Ahrim's robetop and robeskirt give the second highest magic attack bonus available concerning torso and legs, respectively, and also give a good melee defence which is significantly higher than that of Splitbark armour. Ahrim's robes are very popular, especially amongst more advanced participants in Player-verses-Player Activities, particularly Fist of Guthix. They are comparatively cheap, but require repairing every 15 hours of combat and require a moderately high magic and defence level. When wielding all of Ahrim's robes, including the staff, spells have a chance of reducing their target's strength. This power is called 'Blighted Aura'. Ahrim's robetop and robeskirt are often combined with other pieces of armour to form a high magic defence set of armour.
Zuriel's equipment(m)
(Corrupt) Zuriel's robes are one of the four sets of Ancient Warriors' equipment. While it has good stats and wielding the staff allows one to cast miasmic spells in the Ancient Magicks spellbook, the disadvantage is that is it degrades while using it. Moreover, it is quite expensive. Previously, parts of any of the sets could only be received (with much luck) from player-versus-player or bounty worlds, but now they are dropped by all revenants in the Forinthry Dungeon as well as the Chaos Elemental.
Virtus armour(m)
Virtus armour is a high level set of equipment obtainable from the Zaros boss, Nex. It requires level 80 in Magic, Defence, and Constitution. It is currently the most expensive set of magic armour in the game, and has the highest stats thus far. When a piece of Virtus is worn, the player is given a boost to their maximum lifepoints cap. This means that the player can heal past their maximum lifepoints without them draining afterwards. If the full set is worn, you will receive a 400 lifepoint boost.
Similar to the Chaotic weapons and shields, this armour must be recharged with coins after running out of charges. The prices for each piece can be reduced by repairing it in a player owned house
- Virtus mask - 500,000 coins at Bob's Brilliant Axes/ 250,000 coins at armour stand in a player made house
- Virtus robe top - 2 million coins at Bob's Brilliant Axes/ 1 million coins at armour stand in a player made house
- Virtus robe legs- 1 million coins at Bob's Brilliant Axes/ 500,000 coins at armour stand in a player made house
Void Knight Robes(m)
Void mage helm, Void knight top, Void knight robe, Void knight glove, Void knight deflector
Void Knight Robes (or their elite counterparts) give a high defence bonus for magic robes, and it gives the highest range defence bonus of all magic robes, it requires 42 Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged, Constitution and Magic and requires 22 Prayer. However you need 850 Pest Control points but you can only have a max of 500 Pest control points at once. Void Mage Robes give a 30% accuracy bonus to your spells (the optional mace gives a 10% magic damage bonus as well) and while wearing the right ring, staff, amulet, boots, cape and book, it can yield deadly accurate spells. Also with the Void knight deflector, you can switch one void item (not the helmet) so you could get even more accurate spells with the right Magic top.
Hybrid armour
Although "hybrid" armour offers even better bonuses than Nex armour, these only apply inside a number of safe player-versus-player minigames and otherwise they are purely cosmetic.
The special thing about the armours is that they focus on not one, but two combat classes at once. Trickster armour offers great bonuses for mages who like to first freeze their target and then kill them off with a bow (or of course bowsmen who prefer to finish off their opponent with a blast of magic) and battlemage armour is designed for battlemages who use spell alongside sword. There is also vanguard armour, for warriors and archers (and as such players who use melee and ranged at the same time).
The armours are received in pieces (helm, body, leggings, gloves and boots) and at the end of several minigames, there is rare chance of receiving a piece. Each minigame offers a piece for a specific slot and, should one be lucky enough to get one, a screen opens up offering the choice between that piece of vanguard, trickster or battlemage armour.
