Catablepon are monsters that look like green bulls with reptilian tails. They are found on the third level of the Stronghold of Security. They are aggressive to all players, regardless of combat level. They stop their aggressiveness after players have been in the room for 10 minutes. They use the magic spell Weaken (which appears as a spraying white sparkle) to drain up to 15% of their opponent's maximum Strength level, so it would be advisable to bring a Dragon battleaxe to boost Strength and help counter-act this spell. Players with low Strength are not advised to train on these with melee, as Weaken can drain their Strength quite significantly, unless strength potions, restore potions, or a Dragon battleaxe is used. They can melee attack and cast Weaken at the same time, and they cannot cast Weaken from a distance. After the spell has decreased 8 strength levels, Catablepon will stop casting Weaken.
In the northwestern most room of the third level of the Stronghold of Security, there is a safe spot for using Magic, Ranged, or a halberd on level 68 Catablepon. The spot is to the immediate west of the square patch of tendrils by the skeletons on the western side of the room. Also in the same room, immediately after players walk in the southern door there is a safe spot in the bottom-most square. Another safe spot can be found in the room with the level 68 Catablepon. They will not cross into the darker shades of the floor in that room, staying in the lighter shades.
