The dragon battleaxe is the strongest battleaxe that can be used outside of Daemonheim. It can only be wielded by members who have at least 60 Attack and who have completed the Heroes' Quest. It can be bought in the Heroes' Guild for 200,000 coins or as reward of Gold Chest from Shades of Mort'ton Activity. However, it is advised that players buy this weapon from the Grand Exchange in Varrock or another player as it is cheaper to do so, as prices are normally lower.

For a long time this weapon had the highest strength bonus for all one-handed weapons but has been surpassed by the Statius's warhammer, Vesta's longsword, Chaotic longsword and chaotic rapier. It's worth noting, however, that all these degrade, making the dragon battleaxe a better choice for some scenarios.

Special Attack

A player using the special, Rampage

Its special attack, Rampage, requires 100% special attack energy, and increases the player's Strength level by roughly 20% at the cost of 10% of your Attack, Defence, Ranged and Magic levels. Since the special attack lowers defence it is not recommended for high levelled monsters. But when camping on a monster where you use protect from melee it is recommended instead of a super strength potion. If you use the special attack again before your stats return to their level, your Strength will only raise up to 20% more of your regular level, yet your Attack, Defence, Ranged and Magic will be lowered another 10%.

When the special is activated, the player screams, "Raarrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!". (Note that this "shout-out" is only on English servers. On other servers, other "shout-outs" are found here.)

Popularity

The strength boost accounts for the popularity of this weapon; however, although it isn't as commonly used as other dragon weapons, many will use the special attack to boost their strength level, switch to a faster weapon, and then drink a dose of a Restore potion. This weapon's special attack has gained popularity in the Pest Control activity, as the player's special attack meter is refilled after the completion of each round. The battleaxe's special attack with a Stat restore potion can be used to replace a Super strength potion too. The battle axe can be used effectively in combat using a mixture of both restore potions and super attack potions. Using this method you get the same boosts as using a super strength potion and super attack at a much cheaper price. The special attack can also be used with a normal Attack potion, as one dose would negate the lowered attack stat, and slightly boost it over its normal level.(This is not recommended against monsters with high accuracy, as the defence stat is still lowered.)

Note: The bonus gained from using the special attack does NOT stack up with the bonus from drinking a super strength potion.

Scamming

Before the items kept on death update, a player would keep the item with the highest high alchemy value first. Because of the Dragon battleaxe's high alchemy value, it was commonly used in luring scams. A player would bring another player with at least one valuable item into the Wilderness and trade or drop dragon battleaxes. Because of the steep high alchemy value of the battleaxes, they would often be kept instead of the player's more street-valuable items upon death. Despite the popularity of the dragon battleaxe for scamming, there are many other inexpensive items with high alchemy values that worked just as well. For example: Torag's hammers, Dragon plateskirts, Verac's Flail.

Trivia

  • In Pest control, there was a glitch in which if a player was holding the battleaxe while the lander landed, the player could click on the special attack bar then go to their inventory to change the weapon. Thus, the player would perform the Rampage special attack, but he/she will be holding a different weapon. This glitch is now fixed.
  • When a player's session is ended in the Fight Caves, a player's stats are returned to normal, but the special attack bar remains the same. This means that if a player uses Rampage while in the fight cave and then dies, their stats will be reset, but the bar will still be drained for the next session.
  • A player can use the chat window to make a "custom phrase" by pressing ENTER with a selected phrase and clicking on the special attack bar at the same time. Although both phrases will appear on the chat window, this phrase will override the default phrase in the game window.
  • Before HD was introduced the Dragon Battleaxe had sharp blades on each side, now the blades are curved. Though the inventory icon still has sharp bladed ends.
  • The Dragon Battleaxe is the strongest one-handed non-degrading weapon outside Daemonheim.
