The Corrupt dragon battleaxe was released on 15 October 2008 along with the PvP worlds. It is the strongest battleaxe available to non-members, but it crumbles to dust after 30 minutes of use. This weapon also gives the second highest Strength bonus for non-members (succeeded by the Gravite 2h Sword from the Dungeoneering skill). It requires 60 Attack to wield. Although it has a very high damage output per second, its price and short lifetime makes it completely impractical for training.
Players can receive this item either by trading with another player, or by receiving it as a rare drop from killing Revenants or the Chaos Elemental.
In Wilderness, when a player is killed with the degraded version of this weapon, 800K-1471K coins are dropped instead of the battleaxe (approximately it's half GE price * remaining lifetime in minute/30minute), as you cannot trade the degraded version.
This weapon has the best slash and the second best strength bonuses for non-members (70 and 85, respectively), surpassing the previous record holder, the Rune two-handed sword. Its strength bonus has since been surpassed by the Gravite 2h sword, but it's slash attack bonus remains the highest.
When the battleaxe is bought, it is called "Corrupt dragon battleaxe". In this form it is tradeable, however ONCE IT IS WIELDED it will change to "C. dragon battleaxe (deg)", which is the untradeable form. It may be assumed that this has been done to prevent players from using it and then selling it when there is only a little amount of time left for it to degrade.
It is arguably the second most desirable weapon in Free-to-Play (succeeded by the Gravite 2h Sword), as many players hope to use it for a devastating final blow. The maximum hit of this weapon in F2P is approximately 360 with the right strength bonuses. It can be bought from the Grand Exchange in Varrock. The Corrupt Dragon Battleaxe was released at 120,000 coins.
The Corrupt Dragon Battleaxe is becoming less common since the release of Dungeoneering because the Gravite 2h Sword lasts longer (10 hours of combat, as opposed to 30 minutes), has a higher strength bonus (90 as opposed to 85), and is arguably easier to obtain. Its highest bonus to attack is with Crush, rather than Slash, making it more lethal to opponents wearing plate armour. The cost to maintain a Gravite 2h Sword is much cheaper. However, rich high levelled players may prefer this weapon, because it can be easily bought again, unlike a Gravite 2h, which is untradeable, and if lost, the player must go through 400000 Dungeoneering XP just for another one. Also, a Corrupt dragon battleaxe can be used with a shield, which provides extra defence than a Gravite 2h.
- As 30 minutes contain 3000 ticks, and the battleaxe attacks once every 6 ticks, you are able to land, at most, a total of 500 hits before it crumbles to dust. Thus, each hits using this weapon cost at least 6452 coins.

Myths
There was a rumour that: "When you put the Corrupt Dragon Battleaxe on, and take it off in less than a minute, as with all Corrupt items, it will count as a full minute of time used. Therefore, doing this 30 times will destroy the weapon. Do not attempt to use it to hit once to gain an advantage over an enemy- your weapon will break".
This myth has been tested, and is not true. Wielding any corrupt items, and then taking them off in less than a minute, does not count as any extra time (e.g. using a rune scimitar as a main weapon during combat, then switching to a corrupt dragon battleaxe in attempt to land a high hit, then switching back to the rune scimitar will not count as a full minute of time used on the corrupt dragon battleaxe, rather the time counted against the timer will be the time it was used for). This myth was most likely established to avoid extra danger from a well-prepared player killer.
