The dragon mace is the second strongest mace stat-wise available after the Tzhaar-ket-em. Many players, however, consider it as the best due to its special attack as well as its prayer bonus. It can only be wielded by members who have at least 60 Attack and who have completed the Heroes' Quest; the mace can be purchased for 50,000 coins at the Happy Heroes 'H' Emporium in the Heroes' Guild, from other players or the Grand Exchange, and as a drop from a Glacor after completing Ritual of the Mahjarrat. Some players use this weapon since it has considerable melee stats as well as a decent prayer bonus. Under the right circumstances the special attack can hit up to 940 life points.

The dragon mace has a special attack called Shatter which increases the strength of the player's next hit, but slightly reduces its accuracy. This attack uses 25% of the special attack gauge. Players use this occasionally while fighting Waterfiends and the first form of the Kalphite Queen due to these creatures' weakness to crush slightly offsetting the accuracy penalty, though the efficiency of doing this over using a more consistent special weapon like Korasi's Sword or Dragon Claws is questionable.

Trivia

  • After the High Detail update, the Dragon Mace's head became smaller. However, the special attack still looked like it had an old Dragon Mace head, and now it looks like if there's missing space between the edge of the special attack's "Aura" and the actual head of the dragon mace.
  • Although this is a popular weapon among players who want to increase their max hit, players may find it hard to buy in the Grand Exchange, due to the fact that money is lost when buying at the Heroes Guild and selling on the Grand Exchange.
  • This and the corrupt dragon mace are the only two regular maces whose heads are different from the 6 other metal maces; these two maces have sharper and longer spikes than the other six, as well as a spherical build, in contrast to a sharp and a cubical build.
  • The Dragon Mace is actually not a Mace; In fact, it is a Morning Star. A Mace is a blunt object on the end of a short metal pole, or stick. A Morning Star is a blunt object covered in spikes, attached to the end of a short metal pole or stick. But it possibly got its name due to it looking like a mace, and calling it a "Dragon Morning Star" wouldn't sound right.
  • Due to its Prayer bonus, many players have opted to use this weapon during the Quest Monkey Madness. Many parts of this quest are extremely Prayer intensive, and a high Prayer bonus makes completing it easier.
  • The nice Prayer bonus, high combat stats, powerful special attack and relatively low cost make this weapon optimal for questing.
  • Like many Dragon weapons, the price has dropped dramatically.
