Steel platebodies are the third-weakest standard platebody for non-members. They require a defence level of 5 to equip. They provide decent defence against melee combat, but are vulnerable to magic attacks, as with all platebodies.

A player with 48 Smithing can make it by using five steel bars on an anvil while carrying a hammer or when wielding the golden hammer, granting 187.5 smithing experience. In addition to the General Store, it may also be sold to the platemail shop in Varrock for a slightly higher amount, or on the Grand Exchange to other players. A steel platebody is needed to make a steel titan pouch, a Summoning familiar, which requires 99 Summoning. They are also used in level 1 and 2 clue scrolls.

Obtaining

• It can also be bought or sold at Horvik's Armour Shop in central Varrock.
• A steel platebody respawns in level 43 wilderness, near the 2 lesser demons guarding the chest in Lava Maze.
• It could also be randomly received from opening a Mystery box. The box could be chosen when opening a Random event gift, a reward for completing a Random event. It is not recommended to obtain steel platebodies this way as they are uncommon.
