Examine text | A massive scary-looking troll. |
Arrg is a quest monster that must be defeated during Troll Romance quest. All mountain trolls are named after the first thing they ate or tried to eat. Arrg, however, makes an exception. With some trolls, the name of what they first ate is unknown. This is the case with Arrg, so he was named after the sound made by the first thing he ate. This is the same case with Ug and Aga.
Arrg is the strongest Mountain Troll in RuneScape, and uses melee and ranged, both of which can hit up to 386, although the Fremennik round shield reduces the maximum damage from ranging to 200. Another way to kill him is to wear at least rune, have 6-8 doses of prayer potion pray protect from melee, and he will rarely hit you with his ranged and only around 4-8 monkfish are needed, if 70 higher combat. He teleports the player to the Troll arena to fight, and the player is teleported back to Troll Stronghold when he is defeated. It is best to use a combination of protect from melee and ranged against him and switch prayers as he switches attacks. His attack speed is equivalent to that of a whip, so this can be tricky. Arrg can only be fought during the quest, and afterwards it can be fought in the Dominion Tower. If you talk to him after the quest, he will say, "Oh mighty man-warrior, please no hurt Arrg."
Arrg is fightable as a class D boss monster in the Dominion Tower minigame if the player has completed Troll Romance.

Trivia
- Arrg used to have a combat level of 113, the same as that of the Troll generals (before their combat levels were increased in February 2012). His max hit and life points are also the same as those of the troll generals.
- Unlike most trolls, Arrg drops regular bones instead of big bones.
- Although Arrg is more powerful, he allows Dad to act as the leader of the trolls by deciding who can enter the troll homeland because Dad is larger.
- Although trolls are named after the first thing they (try to) eat, it still remains a mystery how Arrg was named. A possibility is that the first thing he tried to eat made the noise "Arrg" when he did so, as "Arrg" is onomatopoeia for a shouting noise, which is perfectly reasonable considering a troll was trying to eat it.
