Sigmund (monster)

This article is about the quest boss, for the Fremennik, see Sigmund the Merchant, for the non-attackable NPC, see Sigmund.

Sigmund is an evil man encountered during the quests Lost Tribe, Death to the Dorgeshuun, Another Slice of H.A.M. and The Chosen Commander, and in the last three quests he fights the player, being ultimately killed by Zanik in The Chosen Commander.

Sigmund is fight-able as a class H boss monster in the Dominion Tower minigame if the player has completed Another Slice of H.A.M..

Death to the Dorgeshuun

[view][talk]

During the Death to the Dorgeshuun quest, a H.A.M. member reveals that Sigmund and Johanhus Ulsbrecht, head of H.A.M, are "planning something big". After eavesdropping on the H.A.M council, it is discovered that they are using a machine they bought from the dwarves of Keldagrim for unknown purposes. When the dead Dorgeshuun Zanik has been revived, she reveals that the HAM are going to use the machine to flood the Dorgeshuun capital, Dorgesh-Kaan.

After infiltrating the caves with the machine in it and slaying the H.A.M. helpers, the player and Zanik battle the level 50 Sigmund. Using a Ring of Life, he escapes death and swears that they will meet again. The ring works even if you reduce his Life Points to 0.

Sigmund teleports away!

Combat strategy

Sigmund is simple to defeat. First, players must defeat his cronies. Afterwards, both the player and Zanik can focus on Sigmund alone. Sigmund, probably out of spite for Zanik, will use Protect from Missiles rather than the protection prayer against whatever combat style you use, making him vulnerable.

Smashing Sigmund's drill.

Another Slice of H.A.M.

[view][talk]

In this quest, Sigmund and his men ambush goblins at the Goblin Village. After a brief struggle he captures Zanik, and ties her to the new rail line linking Keldagrim and Dorgesh-Kaan in the hopes of starting war between the two cities. However his plans are foiled by an adventurer who defeats him and manages to get Zanik off the track just before the train arrives. And once again, he uses another ring of life to get away safely just like in the previous quest.

Sigmund has another ring of life.

Combat strategy

Sigmund is a bit harder to defeat this time. Not only is there no Zanik to help you (she has been tied to train tracks, as seen to the picture to the right), but he also has gained 14 levels since last time from training on goblins around Lumbridge (from 50 to 64). However, there are no H.A.M. guards to help him.

Thanks to the goblin generals giving you the Ancient Mace, the player can steal his favour of the Gods, draining Sigmund's prayer and giving the player the upper hand.

The Chosen Commander

[view][talk]

In The Chosen Commander, Sigmund has left the main H.A.M. base and has formed his own base in Kandarin due to some disagreements with Johanhus Ulsbrecht. While Johanhus wants to deal with the goblins indirectly, Sigmund tries to eliminate the goblins personally.

His plan first involved sending an undercover H.A.M. Agent to Dorgesh-Kaan to poison the food that the young Dorgeshuun were having in order to wipe out the goblin youth, but this plan was thwarted by the adventurer. Upon finding out his agent was killed by Zanik, Sigmund decided to finish the Dorgeshuun off by invading the city with his H.A.M. army and destroy all the goblins there. To do this, Sigmund captures Grubfoot, the advisor to the Goblin generals and tortures him to reveal Zanik's location and on how to access the city.

However, the adventurer discovers Sigmund's new base and breaks in wearing a disguise and manages to release Grubfoot, in the process triggering an alarm and having to fight off a set of H.A.M.

As the adventurer and Grubfoot narrowly escape from the guards, Zanik (possessed by Bandos) arrives with a small group of goblins and attacks the base. Sigmund, despite having already failed with his latest scheme, engages them in a fight, looking forward to finally killing the adventurer. With the help of Zanik, the adventurer manages to defeat Sigmund.

Sigmund tries escaping death using a Ring of Life as before but Zanik cuts off his hand, preventing him from using the ring. Sigmund begs for mercy and the player is given the choice as to whether tell Zanik to kill Sigmund, spare him or say nothing at all. Regardless of what the player says, Zanik says that Sigmund showed her no mercy when they captured her in the H.A.M. base and she kills him after Sigmund declares that he wants to die, since he would rather be dead than live in a world overrun by goblins.

The next time the player visits Duke Horiaco, he informs the player that they found a severed hand in the courtyard of Lumbridge, obviously belonging to Sigmund as the hand has Sigmund's ring on it, and tells the player that he "can't say I feel sorry." If the player visits Johanhus after the quest, he declares that he feels Sigmund "brought his own death upon himself." for taking such harsh measures to defeat the goblins and that he isn't sorry to see his former friend and long time companion dead.

Combat strategy

Similar to before, Sigmund has gained several levels since the last encounter, but the fight should be relatively easy. He will start by using Protect from Melee, but will switch to Protect from Range when Zanik attacks. Simply attack him until Zanik kills him.

Dominion Tower

In the Dominion Tower, Sigmund instantly switches to the protection prayer to counter your combat style, avoiding any damage. He can pray without running out of prayer points. To defeat him, pick up the Ancient mace that appears at the start of the match and then attack Sigmund with any combat style. When he turns on prayer, switch to the ancient mace and hit him once with the mace's special attack. This will remove his prayer for the rest of the match, making him easy to defeat as he is relatively weak for his level.

Warning: Do not use the mace's special attack against Sigmund until after he has turned a protection prayer on. (This can occur at the start of the match, as Sigmund doesn't turn prayer on until you attack him for the first time.) If you do, the special attack will be wasted, and you will have to wait for the special attack to recharge fully before you can use it again. This will take time, and although extremely unlikely due to his relatively low max hit and accuracy, Sigmund might kill you in the meantime unless you can keeping running away from him or keep Protect from Melee/Deflect Melee active in the meantime.
