Slayer training/High-levelled

This is a guide on how to train Slayer in the most efficient manner possible purely in terms of maximising Slayer experience per hour. It is aimed towards players with high levels in the various combat and combat-related stats, including Summoning, Prayer, and Herblore, which provide access to various methods of augmenting the rate at which Slayer is trained. It is also targeted towards players who are able to make money at a fairly high rate, and thus would value their time enough to utilize more expensive methods in the interest of saving time. Due to the intended audience of this guide, not everything will be explained in detail, as the reader is expected to know the basics of RuneScape and the Slayer skill itself. This guide assumes you will be using Kuradal exclusively as your Slayer master. This is a guide and while the user is encouraged to follow it as closely as possible for maximum efficiency, players are free to choose which parts to follow and which to ignore subject to their own opinions, stats, gear, cash, potential to make cash, and personal task preference.

General Starter Information

Slayer is worthwhile to train especially if you are interested in training your melee, Ranged, and Summoning statistics. Due to various bonuses afforded to players while training Slayer (such as the bonus given by the Full Slayer helm), it offers some of the best rates of melee combat experience in the game. It also is very efficient to train Slayer in overall terms across your account because players will get significant amounts of experience in other skills on the road to level 99 Slayer or 200 million experience, resulting in less time wasted gaining extra combat experience which is not necessary since it could have been obtained through Slayer. Generally when slaying for best xp/h you will have a Full Slayer Helm and make extensive use of the Dwarf Cannon. This coupled with significant charm drops mean that you can train Slayer to 99 and make significant headway towards maxed melee and range stats and get pretty close to 99 summoning.

Do Smoking Kills as soon as you can. Use the points to unlock the essential things, like the Slayer helmet, Slayer ring and autokill ability and to gain the opportunity to block or skip the bad tasks (bad tasks being those which give slowest xp/h discussed later in the guide AND/OR tasks which the player chooses to block at their own will. Whatever players choose to spend their points on, they are strongly advised to keep enough points in reserve to cancel several tasks in a row, in case of multiple undesirable assignments being given.

Cancelling and Blocking Tasks

Tasks that the player does not wish to ever do can be permanently blocked at the cost of 100 reward points. Up to six assigned monsters, or group of monsters such as grotworms or mutated jadinkos, can be blocked in this manner, with one block allowed per 50 quest points. Cancelling the block does not refund the points. The monster must be the currently assigned task for it to be blocked. In order to maximize efficiency, players should cancel tasks which are commonly assigned yet offer slow rates of Slayer experience, often due to issues such as the inability to use a cannon and/or a titan, low hitpoints, or other factors, such as long animations or specialized killing methods. Please see the Task Summary section below to determine which tasks should be considered for the use of a block.

Tasks may also be cancelled, if the player does not wish to do it at that time. Cancelling a task costs 30 reward points each time, making it potentially expensive to try and get a specific assignment. Players are recommended to use the cancel option as often as it can be used while maintaining a stable level of Slayer reward points. This will ensure that the player spends as much time as possible doing tasks which offer fast Slayer experience.

Kuradal assigns 36 different Slayer tasks. Essentially, each player should develop their own personal task list using a method like this: 1. Sort the tasks from fastest to slowest Slayer experience. 2. Decide how many tasks must be completed (instead of being cancelled) in order to keep Slayer reward points at a stable level in the long run (neither gaining nor losing a significant amount of points). This will probably be around 15 tasks, give or take a few depending on how lucky the player is with assignments. 3. Draw a cut-off line after the nthfastest task (i.e., the 15th fastest task). All tasks below this line will be either blocked or cancelled. 4. Of the tasks below the cut-off line, permanently block the six which are most commonly assigned. Even if a certain task may be worse than another, it is better to block the one that is more common since you plan to cancel them both anyway. 5. Cancel the remaining tasks below the cut-off line whenever they are assigned. Complete only the tasks above the cut-off line.

The cut-off line can be adjusted depending on whether the player finds that they are gaining or losing too many points. For example, a player that is running low on points may do a gargoyle or greater demon task despite the fact that these tasks are usually cancelled.

Prayer

Prayers will speed up tasks dramatically, and should be used on every task. Bring prayer potions/renewals. Turmoil (or Piety if one does not have Turmoil) should be used the entire task if it is a melee task. Along with Turmoil, Berserker can be used to slightly increase potion endurance, but note that this does not work with overloads. If it is a mage task, use Augury. Players who do not wish to switch their prayers from curses to normal prayers every mage task may use Leech Magic instead. There is no task where Ranged is the best, so feel free to ignore all aspects of Ranged besides the cannon.

Having a holy wrench is not required, but recommended. It boosts the amount of prayer gained from renewals and prayer potions thus reducing the number of prayer potions used. Over time, these savings makes the one space of inventory lost well worth it.

Herblore

Similar to Prayer, proper use of Herblore can also have a huge effect on the speed at which tasks are completed. It is recommended that players who do not have access to extreme potions at the minimum spend their time making money and then training Herblore before they begin training Slayer. Extreme potions are very inexpensive and should be used every task. Bring extreme attack and extreme strength potions to melee tasks, and extreme magic potions to magic tasks. Players who can make money at a high rate (at least 2 million coins per hour) and therefore value their time more highly should use overloads, which offer a small, but noticeable increase in speed over extremes, and will also help on tasks where the cannon is used, as they boost Ranged level as well. Overloads keep your stats boosted to 122/99 ranged, 125/99 melee stats, 106/99 magic, constantly, whereas extremes have their boost diminish 1 point per minute. If you bring overloads, you can drink a dose of overload dose follow by a dose of prayer renewal. When one 4-dose potion vial is emptied, that is a reminder to pick up and set down the cannon again.

Making super prayer potions or using them for Slayer isn't recommended. The time required to make them is much greater than the time saved by using them instead of regular prayer potions. While they will make Slayer marginally more efficient and it is worth using them if you have already made a large quantity, they are much worse in terms of overall efficiency due to the time it takes to make them.

Recover special potions restore 25% special every 30 seconds on top of the 10% special naturally restored. That's 35% regeneration every 30 seconds, or 105% every minute and a half. Your special attacks are important, using the Dragon claws special as often as possible will speed up your tasks. Recover specials can also be seen as a food supplement, since they mean more specials, which mean more healing from a Soul Split and dragon claws combo or Enhanced excalibur specials.

Dwarf Multi-Cannon

Every task in which a dwarf multicannon can be used should be cannoned. Cannoning all possible tasks is recommended. For the low level just trying to get by, he or she may drop out of cannoning all possible tasks. But even then, cannon the good cannon tasks such as dagganoth, bloodveld, hellhounds, kalphites, aberrant spectres, and suqahs. The cannon's ability is based on your Ranged level and the combat bonus of your current attack method. If you use a rapier with a Fighter helm, it's going to do well with a cannon. Standing under the cannon, especially in multi-combat areas, will crowd the monsters around the cannon, which will allow the opportunity for more hits than if they were spread out. It will also allow for faster reloading of the cannon. For tasks where you cannon in multi-combat, always bring your best combat familiar with its scrolls in your Slayer helmet. Don't forget to load up your helmet after a task with scrolls once you use your combat familiar. Use overloads if you have an excessive stockpile since the Ranged level boost is good for the cannon. Otherwise extremes, supers or the welfare option combat potions are good.

Equipment

On melee tasks, the primary decision players will make is whether to use a chaotic rapier or a chaotic maul. The rapier is usually superior to the maul in terms of melee damage, however, the maul edges out the rapier on tasks in which most of the damage is done by the cannon because the maul's higher attack bonuses increase the accuracy of the cannon. The chaotic rapier is nearly always superior to the chaotic longsword, which should never be used, perhaps with the exception of Skeletal wyvern tasks. Furthermore, most melee tasks should be performed in what is usually referred to as "max strength" gear, consisting of the melee armour which yields the greatest strength bonuses, such as Bandos armour and steadfast boots. There are some notable exceptions, however, such as waterfiends which should be killed in Karil's armour. Note that Torva armour offers the same strength bonus as Bandos and thus they are equal for all intents and purposes, again with the exception of Skeletal wyvern tasks, for which players will find Torva's significantly increases their ability to survive.

The Full Slayer helmet is better than an uncharged black mask, and should be used for every task. The bonuses of the helmet plus the ability to be store with steel titan scrolls and the built-in Slayer equipment make it an essential part of any serious Slayer's gear. Remember to refill your stored scrolls after using your Steel Titan in a Slayer task.

A dragon defender is nearly always superior to the Dragonfire shield because of its large accuracy bonuses. Indeed, even a rune defender is better than the Dragonfire shield in terms of rate of damage dealt. However, the Dragonfire shield does have a few uses. Namely, it should be used on dragon tasks by players who cannot make Super antifire potions, and should be used by all players on Skeletal Wyvern tasks.

The table below gives a guide as to what equipment should be used on a typical melee task:

Getting a task and transport

Ferocious rings allow fast transport to Kuradal, and are always the fastest and best option when obtaining a new task. However, players may find that they are running out of the rings if they are not performing enough tasks in Kuradal's Dungeon. Therefore, players may wish to use a slayer ring, which should be brought to every task, to reach Kuradal when their task is complete. Simply use the ring to teleport to the Rellekka Slayer Caves and then use the nearby fairy ring (code B-J-Q) to reach Kuradal. (Slayer rings should be made in batches and treated as disposable to allow more loot to be banked.)

For Slayers using the Lunar spellbook, the NPC Contact spell can be used to get a new task. However, the rewards interface cannot be accessed this way, so travel to any Slayer master may be necessary to cancel.
