Ava's attractor is a reward from the Animal Magnetism quest. It randomly generates iron arrows directly into the players inventory. The attractor can be upgraded to Ava's accumulator when the player reaches level 50 Ranged for 75 steel arrows; if the player already has 50 Ranged when they receive it, it will already be upgraded. Its appearance is blue when first received (and if the player does not have 50 Ranged, it will also stay blue), however once upgraded, its colour changes to green.
Upon death the device does not remain underneath your gravestone. The player must then return to Ava and purchase another for 999 gold.
The device only works when worn. In addition, if players are wearing metal torso armour the device is unable to function properly and they receive a message: "Your armour interferes with Ava's device.", instead of collecting arrows. However, there is no interference when wearing Fremennik armour, a Bandos chestplate, Varrock armour, a granite body, Initiate and Proselyte armour, Black armour (t), Sacred clay armour, Khazard armour, Carnillean armour, or Fighter Torso. Even if not wearing metal armour, the device doesn't seem to work in snowed or frozen places, like the Ice Mountain or the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon.
As of 4 January 2007, the device will collect most of the players' own arrows, bolts, etc. as they fire them, saving them from having to pick them up, but it cannot do this if there is something in the way. When it is working properly, the player's ammunition should often not be consumed.
In addition, the player may bring the attractor to Nomad in Soul Wars to have it enchanted. Once enchanted, the ability of the device to retrieve lost arrows will be passed on to the player's Soul Wars cape. As of 17 November 2009, the accumulator can also be taken to Lanthus to make it pick up arrows in Castle Wars. Additionally, players have the option of preventing their device from picking up random iron items but still letting it retrieve their arrows. This can be toggled on or off by right-clicking the attractor.
In a Postbag From The Hedge letter, Ava asked a player how they would like their accumulator upgraded. This hinted at 3rd version in a future update, which turned out to be Ava's alerter, obtained during Do No Evil quest, and kept as one of the rewards.
