An ordinary Cape is a basic piece of equipment usually worn by all combat classes, as it provides no penalties to attack or strength and offers slight bonuses to defence. All the different variants of a cape are also called capes.

Cape colours
Below is a list of normal cape colours and how to obtain them. White dye cannot be used on capes. Some capes offer certain combat bonuses.

Pink |
Pink dye, which is obtainable from Betty in Port Sarim for 20 coins after a player completes The Hand in the Sand. | A members-only item. The dye is initially used in The Hand in the Sand to make a truth serum. It is made by using redberries and white berries on bottled water. |
Red |
Red dye, which requires 3 redberries and 5 coins. | Can also be obtained from Thessalia's Fine Clothes in Varrock or as a very rare drop from a Goblin. |
Orange | Orange dye, a mixture of red and yellow dye. | |
Yellow | Yellow dye, which requires 2 onions and 5 coins. | |
Green | Green dye, a mixture of blue and yellow dye. | |
Blue |
Blue dye, which requires 2 woad leaves and 5 coins. | Can also be obtained from the Champions' Guild. |
Purple | Purple dye, a mixture of blue and red dye. | There is a purple dye respawn to the east of the battlefield, near the Spirit tree, south of East Ardougne. |
Black | Black mushroom ink, pick a black mushroom and use it with your pestle and mortar. | Can be obtained from killing a highwayman. |
All of the basic and team capes can be bought at the Grand Exchange.
Capes can be dyed to another colour using dyes. Dyeing a cape gives you 2.5 crafting experience. To make dye, a player must bring ingredients and 5 coins to Aggie in Draynor Village or Ali the Dyer in Pollnivneach, and the player will receive dye. Note that black and pink dyes are members only.
