The arcane stream necklace gives a +14 magic attack and +15% magic damage boost to the player wearing it, and requires 70 Magic and 70 Dungeoneering to wear. It is the best necklace available for mages. Although the Third age amulet offers a slightly higher magic attack bonus at 15, it does not provide a magic damage boost. However the Saradomin's hiss offers a +16 magic attack and a +12% Magic Damage boost when wielded.
This may have been released as a way to balance the combat triangle since Magic is typically looked at as an underpowered combat style. With all boosts including this necklace, theoretically the maximum hit with magic would now be 490, or 531 with the Hexcrest or Full slayer helmet against a slayer assignment, or over 600 if used in tandem with a Ferocious ring in Kuradal's Dungeon. It can hit over 1100 damage on Ice Strykewyrms with Hexcrest/Full slayer helmet, Overload/Extreme magic/the special move of the Wolpertinger, wielding a Chaotic staff, wearing a Fire cape or a TokHaar-Kal and casting Fire Surge. When fighting multiple enemies the necklace's boost does not affect the secondary targets.
The release of this item has also raised the highest achievable hit in the regular magic spellbook to 438, or 540 with the hexcrest against a slayer monster.

Trivia
- When it was released it cost 100,000 tokens, but this was changed with the Slayer Challenges update to 30,500 tokens.
- A common misconception is that the damage boost applies to secondary targets. However, this is not the case. In various scenarios, such as bursting rock lobsters, the damage boost is only applied to the primary target.
