A Gold ring is made by using a gold bar and a ring mould on a furnace. It requires a crafting level of 5 and gives 15 experience when made.
Grum's Gold Exchange in Port Sarim buys gold rings. He used to purchase them for more than High Alchemy, but that is no longer true. They can also be sold to the Rogue jewellery shop, once unlocked.
A gold ring is a reward found in the Casket from the Pirate's Treasure quest, a reward in packs of 233 from Familiarisation, and an item found in Bird's nests.
Rings cannot be seen on players, thus gold rings were often considered useless. They simply filled the ring slot in the equipment interface. However, gold rings can be enchanted into a Gold ring (i) at Mobilising Armies, giving a slight defence bonus. Un-enchanted gold rings are a slightly useful source of income for low-level crafters.
When crafting large numbers of gold bars, other pieces of gold jewellery give more Crafting experience. However, crafting gold rings is an easy way to raise the first crafting levels.
- To maximise value, gold necklaces are crafted, as these may be sold to Grum's in Port Sarim for 270 coins, compared to 210 coins for gold rings.
- To maximise Crafting experience, amulets are crafted, providing the most Crafting experience of all the plain gold jewellery (double the gold ring's 15 experience.)
- To maximise return from casting High level alchemy, gold bracelets are crafted by members, as these return 330 coins for high level alchemy (210 coins are obtained from high alchemy of Gold rings). (gold bracelets also provide the best combination of experience and money when crafted.)
You can also get a gold ring from the Varrock Bank Vault.
Gold rings are the tertiary ingredient in infusing Magpie pouches, and are used in treasure trails occasionally.
