The Dwarven army axe is a tool that serves as a steel hatchet, steel pickaxe, needle, tinderbox, chisel and knife in one item. It can also be used as a weapon, with a little less power than Mithril weapons. As there are no requirements to wield it, the Dwarven Army Axe is the second most powerful one-handed weapon for players with level 1 Attack and Strength after the Third-age druidic staff, its predecessor being Darklight. However, the only attack options for the axe are for gaining controlled experience, so the individual would not remain 1 Attack and Strength, and cannot directly train Defence by itself.

The Dwarven Army Axe is a members-only benefit and is given to all members. The axe is obtained by saving the people in the mine during the Troll Warzone tutorial sub-quest 'Machinery Of War'. You can receive another one from Major Nigel Corothers who is in Burthope should you lose it.

Note that the axe will automatically be swapped for any bronze or steel pick, dagger, sword or hatchet, should there be no space in your inventory. The replaced item will then be sent to your bank. If there is no space in your bank either, no items will be replaced and you can collect your Dwarven Army Axe from Major Corothers in Burthope. You can also collect your axe from him should you lose it. The axe also makes a decent PvP weapon for lower levelled players as it is fairly strong and easily replaced if lost.

When cutting a normal tree, you have a chance of receiving a wooden knot. This can be crafted into an unfinished brooch. When mining copper or tin ore, you can receive an uncut lapis lazuli gem. This can be crafted into a cut lapis lazuli gem. The two can be combined into a Lapis lazuli brooch.

After giving Isold a pair of leather gloves and a bronze helm (NOT a bronze full helm), the dwarven army axe would give bonus experience when working with leather or soft clay. When working with soft clay, the Dwarven Army Axe gives 3 bonus experience per object crafted.

After completing each stage of Troll Warzone, the player will receive augments to the Dwarven Army Axe that boost the exp of cooking, lighting up to oak trees and other skills.

Depending on which attack style the player is using the axe will change into one of three forms.

Hack! (Controlled)

When using the "Hack!" Attack Style the Axe is in the form of a hatchet.

Gouge! (Controlled)

When using the "Gouge!" Attack Style the Axe is in the form of a pickaxe.

Smash! (Controlled)

When using the "Smash!" Attack Style the axe takes the form of a Mace.

None of these forms change the Equipment Bonus in any way.

Special Attack

Cyclone attack damages 1 target 3 times. NPCs will be hit for 40, 30 and 20 simultaneously, for a total of 90 life points, except if it has Protect from Melee or Deflect Melee active, then the hits are reduced(40% less than 90 as the prayer blocks 40% of incoming damage from other players). Against other players, this special attack deals 25, 20 and 10 damage for a total of 55 LP. The special attack drains 100% of your Special Attack bar. The damage dealt is not affected by prayers or the set effect of the Void Knight Equipment. This attack seems to have no effect on any monsters in the Pest Control minigame.

Trivia

  • Though this item is designed for lower level players, all players may find this item useful for new quests, similar to the quest kit, or rogue kit as it only takes up one inventory space and functions as multiple items.
  • This weapon is a reference to the swiss army knife, a multifunctional pocket knife.
  • Could also be a reference to the chinese military multi-tool shovel.
  • This weapon is one of few that does not have a defensive stance.
  • This tool may seem obsolete since the introduction of the Tool belt, but it's still useful since the Dwarven army axe functions as steel hatchet/pickaxe while the belt can only store bronze. After Troll Warzone the Dwarven army axe also gives bonus xp in low level skilling after receiving the corresponding attachments.
  • While using this tool for Woodcutting, the player does a different chopping animation than with a normal hatchet. (hitting the tree from different angles)
  • If overridden using solomons store scorching axe, it does the normal chop instead of its unique animation hitting the tree from various angles.
