Abyssal leech

An Abyssal leech is a monster that dwells in the Abyss, and also in the Abyssal Area. They are the easiest abyssal monsters to kill because they have low defence and low lifepoints. However, they do have high accuracy and can hit very quickly (attack speed of 8, around the same speed as throwing knives on rapid stance). They are the monster usually killed for pouches because they are the abyssal monster that has the fewest life points. On the flip side, however, their drop rate is slightly lower than that of the monsters with tougher life points and defence.

To hunt this creature in the Abyssal Area, place yourself in a corner so that they can only attack you one at a time. If you have 43 Prayer, bring a Prayer potion and use Protect from Melee. After that point hunting for pouches, charms, and various talismans is easier.

Training on them is not recommended but possible due to other monsters such as Abyssal walkers and Abyssal guardians that roam the Abyss and Abyssal Area. They have 100 LP, extremely low defence, and are highly aggressive, allowing quick training. However, they will stop being aggressive after a while, just like the Abyssal guardian and the Abyssal walker do. They are particularly weak to crush attacks, but it is highly recommended to use other weapons as their low defence and health can easily 1-hit them.

Locations

The Abyssal Area is a great place to slay leeches as there is no chance of getting skulled unlike the nearby Abyss. You can also teleport out when needed quickly and efficiently along with the fact that it is not a multicombat area. However the leeches here are more spread out then the nearby Abyss, so finding a small number in one spot will be hard to do so.

The Abyss is also another good place to kill leeches. However, you will be SKULLED upon entry unless you have used a Forinthry brace's charge, though your prayer will be drained upon entry. This place is a multi-combat area, making it excellent for training here as it can fetch around 50-100k combat experince per hour depending on your weapon and how fast you can kill the leeches. The leeches here are more clumped so it makes it an excellent area to kill them. However escaping while they are still aggressive is a problem as there are almost no safespots and if you fail an obstacle you will still take damage.

Note that you will only get a pouch if you have all the smaller pouches, and if you have them all, you will no longer get them as a drop, unless you lose one.

It is recommended to get your pouches from these monsters due to its low LP. They have a slightly lower drop rate than the other abyssal monsters, however, meaning that it may take more kills to obtain the pouches.

Trivia

  • Abyssal leeches used to be level 41, but after a hidden update, their combat levels were raised to 86. This has drawn some criticism from players as they used to be non-aggressive to players with a combat of 83 or higher, but due to the update became aggressive to all levels.
