Barbarian Assault/Rewards
Choosing your wave reward type
After each wave, the player is rewarded with either Honour points or double experience potential for their penance horn or master penance horn. To choose which you'd like to be rewarded with, you may flip the lever on the wall of each wave's room. Honour points are chosen by default.
Honour points can be used to buy various Penance armours, role level upgrades, cosmetic weapon decorations, or random gambled items (the dragon chainbody is among these, although it is rare).
Double experience potential can be held in the penance horn and master penance horn. While wielding either of these horns filled with any amount of double experience potential, they double the experience gained when training Firemaking, Mining, or Agility. For example, if a player wielding a penance horn with any amount of potential burned a yew log, they would receive 405 experience in Firemaking as opposed to the normal 202.5 experience. This is because all training methods are doubled when wielding a filled horn. See either horns' article for more information.
Earning Honour points
Players gain Honour points as they play Barbarian Assault (activity). The amount of Honour Points that a player receives is based on their performance (Individual Honour Points), and how well they worked with their team (Team Honour Points), along with the difficulty of the wave. Individual Points are counted as double. It is important for the player to do their role effectively, so that they are not penalised twice (i.e. Individual Points reduction, and Team Points reduction). These are a form of currency in the activity and can be used to buy rewards.
This is an example of the Advanced Breakdown Points Table for an Attacker:
Advanced Breakdown Points Table | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Reward | Contributor | Notes | |||
# | Honour Points | Importance of Teamwork | |||
Team | Individual | ||||
Runners that got past | 4 | -10 | Defender | Healer needs to call out Bait type | |
Rangers killed | 5 | 4 | 4 | Attacker | Collector needs to call out Attack style |
Fighters killed | 5 | 4 | 4 | Attacker | Collector needs to call out Attack style |
Healers killed | 5 | 3 | Healer | Defender needs to call out Poison type | |
Runners killed | 5 | 9 | Defender | Healer needs to call out Bait type | |
Player life points replenished | 600 | 3 | 3 | Healer | |
Wrong poison packs used | 2 | -0 | Healer | Defender needs to call out Poison type | |
Eggs collected (minus exploded) | 20 | 4 | Collector | Attacker needs to call out Colour | |
Failed Attacker attacks | 10 | -9 | -9 | Attacker | Collector needs to call out Attack type |
Total | 10 | 2 | |||
Honour Points | 12 | Team + Individual |
This is the formula (approximate) for calculating Honour Points for each Role:
Honour Points for Waves 1-9 | ||
---|---|---|
Role | Points earned | Penalties (Max: 10 points) |
Collector | Egg collected / 4.35 (rounded down) | Exploded eggs (subtracted from total eggs collected) |
Healer | (Total / 180) plus Healers killed x 0.7 (rounded down) |
Each wrong poison used / 4 |
Attacker | (Fighters killed - 1) + (Rangers killed - 1) | Incorrect attacks / 1.2 (rounded down) |
Defender | Runners killed x 1.8 (rounded down) | Runners getting through x 3 |
Entire Team | The sum of all the above points will be given to everyone on the team | The sum of all the above penalties is deducted from everyone on the team |
For completing Wave 10, each player gets 80 points for their role (plus 5 points in each of the other 3 roles.) |
- Note: Maximum penalty of 10 may affect team totals, but individual totals can only go down to 0 (i.e. no negative value).
- For healers the max amount of LP that counts is 5120 and the max honour points gained by healing is 28.
- Exploded eggs cannot be 'recovered'. If 3 eggs are exploded, it is then only possible to get a max egg count of 57, rather than the usual 60.
- Penance killed using the egg launcher are still counted regardless of who fires.
- The most points that can be earned in a wave is 109, by the healer on wave 9.
Players may then spend their Honour Points by talking to Commander Connad, who can be found in the Barbarian Assault entrance hall, near Captain Cain. Players may choose to spend their points by either:
- Upgrading their level in a particular role (Level 1-5).
- Purchasing Penance armour.
- Gambling to obtain items, including the extremely rare Dragon chainbody.
Level Upgrade
Players may upgrade the level in a particular role from Level 1 up to Level 5. By upgrading their levels, the player gains extra abilities such as extra damage, higher healing, etc. However, each upgrade requires spending a certain amount of Honour Points. A total of 1,400 Honour Points are needed to obtain a Level 5 role. 5,600 points are required to obtain Level 5 in all roles. Obtaining the maximum level in all roles is one of the requirements needed to get a trimmed Completionist cape.
Abilities gained by upgrading:
- Collector - increase the capacity of the Egg Collector bag.
- Healer - increase the healing capacity.
- Attacker - increase damage on Penance Fighters and Penance Rangers.
- Defender - increase the lure range for Penance Runners.
A summary of the level upgrades for each role:
Level | Honour Points | Collector | Healer | Attacker | Defender |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Start level | Bag holds 2 eggs | Heals 100 life points | +10 bonus damage | Lure 4 spaces |
2 | 200 | Bag holds 4 eggs + Conversion chance 70% | Heals 150 life points | +20 bonus damage | Lure 5 spaces |
3 | 300 | Bag holds 6 eggs + Conversion chance 80% | Heals 200 life points | +30 bonus damage | Lure 6 spaces |
4 | 400 | Bag holds 7 eggs + Conversion chance 90% | Heals 250 life points | +40 bonus damage | Lure 8 spaces |
5 | 500 | Bag holds 8 eggs + Conversion chance 100% | Heals 350 life points | +50 bonus damage | Lure 10 spaces |
Earning double experience potential
Double experience potential is gained in the same way Honour points are gained, although it is a fixed amount per wave, rather than a reward based on performance. At the end of a wave, a summary of horn benefits and a percentage of the horn filled is displayed. However, there is currently a bug where the percentage displayed is not that of the player reading it, but rather of the team leader's horn (the player with the team scroll)
Armour
Players may also purchase Penance armour using their Honour Points. Certain items require the player to kill the Penance Queen. Each time the player wants one of these items, he or she must kill the queen once. The kills do not "stack". If a player is only missing a few dozen points and will probably be able to earn them before their next Queen kill it is probably worthwhile to keep saving up. Of course this may mean leaving one's current team. Points from all roles are required.
Item | Points in each Role | Queen Kill required? | |
---|---|---|---|
Fighter hat | 275 | Yes | |
Healer hat | 275 | Yes | |
Runner hat | 275 | Yes | |
Ranger hat | 275 | Yes | |
Fighter torso | 375 | Yes | |
Penance skirt | 375 | Yes | |
Runner boots | 100 | No | |
Penance gloves | 150 | No | |
Granite body | 95,000 coins | Yes |
- The Fighter Torso's destroy option has been removed so you may now drop it or pick it up from your grave.
- The Total amount in points for a Penance armour set (one of any Penance hats, Penance Gloves, Runner Boots, Fighter Torso and Penance Skirt) is 5100 points (All roles added together). When wearing a full Penance armour set, your prayer points will replenish over time at a rate of 30 prayer points per minute.
Weapons
Only one official Penance weapon is available, but the Barbarians will also paint your abyssal whip or dark bow for a small price. Once the paint is bought, it can be used an unlimited amount of times. Note however to re-colour an item, it must first be cleaned with a cleaning cloth.
Item | Points in each Role | Queen Kill required? | |
---|---|---|---|
Penance trident | 390 in each role | No | |
Penance master trident | Free upgrade, but requires 70 | No | |
Abyssal link paint (White) | 50 points in any role | No | |
Abyssal link paint (Green) | 50 points in any role | No | |
Abyssal link paint (Blue) | 50 points in any role | No | |
Abyssal link paint (Yellow) | 50 points in any role | No | |
Dark bow (White) | 50 points in any role | No | |
Dark bow (Green) | 50 points in any role | No | |
Dark bow (Blue) | 50 points in any role | No | |
Dark bow (Yellow) | 50 points in any role | No |
Horns
As explained above, horns can contain double experience potential. The penance horn holds exactly the same potential as the master penance horn. However, the master penance horn has a unique emote designed to showcase each Level 5 a player has in a role.
Item | Cost | Queen Kill required? | |
---|---|---|---|
Penance horn | Free | No | |
Penance master horn | Penance horn + level 5 in any one role | No |
Gambling
By gambling, players may obtain various items, including the extremely rare dragon chainbody.
There are 3 methods of gambling, each with different costs:
- Gamble low: costs 10 Honour Points
- Gamble medium: costs 20 Honour Points
- Gamble high: costs 30 Honour Points.
The odds of getting a Dragon chainbody are exceedingly slim, seeing as it is a very rare and valuable item. The odds of obtaining it are, as quoted from Jagex, "About the same odds as Zamorak suddenly deciding to give up his evil ways.", which, according to RuneScape mythology, is nearly zero, however, based on actual rewards, a dragon chainbody appears to turn up every 6,000 high gambles.
