This is me. I am amazing.

Zemouregal is a Mahjarrat who assisted Zamorak in his rebellion against Zaros and is a powerful necromancer. He is heavily featured in the quests Defender of Varrock, The Curse of Arrav and Ritual of the Mahjarrat. He is also the antagonist in the Legend of Arrav, in which he attempted to forcibly take an Imcando shield and destroy Varrock. The illustrations in the Legend of Arrav show that he was a skeleton shrouded in a black cloak and plate mail. He is also known to be Lucien's cousin.

Players may receive part of the Mysterious Chronicle in Daemonheim, written by Bilrach, which mentions Zemouregal.

History

The Profile of Zemouregal.

Zemouregal arrived in Gielinor from the realm of Freneskae along with the other Mahjarrat initially to serve the desert god Icthlarin, but switched his allegiance to Zaros along with the other Mahjarrat due to the feeling of unsuitability of them in the service of Ichtlarin.

Zemouregal then assisted in the creation of the Zarosian Empire during the Second Age, which was the largest and the mightiest of that time. However, after some time, the Mahjarrat were not content with what they had and each began to work more for their own interests as did Zemouregal.

Zemouregal assisted Zamorak in the betrayal of Zaros. The betrayal was incredibly successful, however, Zamorak was banished by the other gods for the imbalance in power he caused, and then Zemouregal simply disappeared. Shortly after, Zamorak returned to Gielinor and called Zemouregal along with his other greatest warriors and declared war against everyone that opposed him, starting the God Wars, where Zemouregal assisted Zamorak likely using his necromancy skills to raise undead armies to bolster Zamorak's forces.

After the end of the God Wars, Zemouregal's actions remained rather secret, though it is known that during the Fourth Age, the hero Arrav encountered Zemouregal in the Land of Dreams and that Zemouregal was planning to take possession of the Shield of Arrav.

Zemouregal's theme.

Zemouregal desired the Shield of Arrav, an artefact of immense power which had fallen into the hands of Arrav, the greatest Hero of Avarrocka above anything else. Arrav, warned by elders of Zemouregal's power, vanished with the shield. Enraged, Zemouregal destroyed Avarrocka seeking it.

After that, Arrav returned to help the survivors rebuild the city, but peace would not be acceptable for Zemouregal, three summers later Zemouregal raised an undead army and attacked Avarrocka again, however, Arrav defeated Zemouregal's army by throwing the Shield of Arrav into them, where it was picked up by the grandson of one of the elders of Avarrocka, who unlocked the shield's true power and destroyed the entire zombie army.

Not accepting the loss, Zemouregal drew his blade of smoke and shadow and struck Arrav in the back. Extremely wounded, Arrav laid on the ground as Zemouregal stood over him and used the Ancient Magicks to kill him. After that, Zemouregal disappeared with the body of Arrav and it was later found that Zemouregal used his necromancy skills to bring Arrav back to life to serve him by force.

It seems that Arrav's heart is still beating, in a highly secure room in Zemouregal's base which the player must infiltrate to obtain it during The Curse of Arrav quest.

Allies and Followers

Today, Arrav is Zemouregal's most powerful undead soldier, although he is forced to do so against his will. Zemouregal's main following are his large undead troops, which the gargoyle Sharathteerk seems to be in charge of. He is also an emissary between his Mahjarrat brethren and can be useful in combat and despite Zemouregal always blame him of his losses, Sharathteerk has always remained loyal to him and has proven to be quite useful, even though his master claims otherwise. Under Zemouregal's command there is a vast army of (armoured) zombies, simple undead, but which cannot to be underestimated due to their large numbers. They guard Zemouregal's fort and Zemouregal's base, although most are taken along by Zemouregal himself as protection and a weapon in battles.

Zemouregal also seemed to have had a short lived alliance with his cousin Lucien, after noticing that he had become extremely powerful and that it would be wise to keep on his good side. They also ran the investigation towards the ritual marker after the events of the 17th Ritual together.

Recent Events

17th Ritual of Rejuvenation

Just after the seventeenth Ritual of Rejuvenation, Zemouregal was asked to come to the Ritual Marker again with his cousin. The request was made by Moia, Lucien's daughter and creation. Zemouregal shows much interest in the, as he says, mongrel, although later agrees that she is useless. Moia wanted to inform her father and master and his cousin of the fact that someone, later revealed to be Bilrach, has tried moving the Ritual Marker, although Lucien claims this to be impossible. Nevertheless, the two Mahjarrat send her away to find a Mahjarrat that wasn't present at the Ritual, Bilrach, while they remain to investigate.

Defender of Varrock

In the Defender of Varrock quest, the player learns of an army of zombies being amassed in the wilderness and it is then discovered that Zemouregal is preparing for another attack on Varrock to attempt to claim the Shield of Arrav once more, this time, with the undead hero of Varrock Arrav aiding him by force. The player then investigates and finds that a base is being established in the basement of the Chaos Temple and it is learned Zemouregal is making the assault as a last attempt at finding the shield before "heading to the north".

As his forces march to Varrock, the player seeks the Sacred Forge in order to learn how to defeat the forces of Zemouregal, however, Zemouregal somehow manages to corrupt the Sacred Forge and appears in a nightmare to the player, gloating on how his forces march on Varrock.

Zemouregal explains why he does not wish to ally with Lucien.

The player then returns to Varrock just as Zemouregal's forces overwhelm the castle. And is forced to find the descendant of the original founder of Varrock, who is the only person who can use the Shield of Arrav to destroy the zombie army. After investigating, the player discovers that Dimentheis is the individual, and then hands the Shield of Arrav to him, who unlocks the shield's true powers and destroy the entire zombie army. Zemouregal, now defeated, withdraws with Arrav and departs to the north.

It is also revealed that Lucien has sent an ambassador to discuss an alignment between the two. It appears as of now, however, that Zemouregal has no intention of any sort of alignment, though with the failure of his attack on Varrock, he may change his mind.

The Curse of Arrav

In The Curse of Arrav, although Zemouregal does not appear, he is referenced heavily. In the quest, players infiltrate a small part of Zemouregal's Fort, and later explore more of the dungeon underneath the Chaos Temple in the Wilderness. Zemouregal's notes reveal that he has expressed an interest in siring more Mahjarrat with Enakhra, and that he has seemingly changed his mind about his alliance with Lucien, noting that he has been gaining a lot of power as of late.

18th Ritual of Rejuvenation

In the quest The Ritual of the Mahjarrat, Zemouregal took part in the 18th Mahjarrat Ritual of Rejuvenation, during which he aggressively lobbies for a Zarosian Mahjarrat to be the sacrifice. Though he does not care which Zarosian Mahjarrat is to be sacrificed, he immediately settles for sacrificing Jhallan when Lucien proposes it because Jhallan is the weakest Mahjarrat of them all. When a fight breaks out amongst the Mahjarrat after Wahisietel attacks Lucien, Zemouregal sides with his cousin by summoning Sharathteerk and a troop of zombies to attack while he fights against Azzanadra; after the zombies are defeated, Zemouregal summons Arrav into the fight but Arrav is soon released from his control after the player gives him back his heart (which was stolen from Zemouregal's base in The Curse of Arrav). Arrav immediately turns against Zemouregal and begins to fight against him, almost killing him before Zemouregal asks Lucien for help. When Lucien refuses, Zemouregal turns against him and convinces all the Mahjarrat to do so as well, joining together to attack Lucien all at once.

When the time for the Ritual arrives, the fighting is stopped and all the Mahjarrat participate, sacrificing Jhallan to rejuvenate themselves. Immediately after all are restored to full power, the Mahjarrat prepare to attack Lucien once again, but they are stopped when Lucien brings in the Stone of Jas to use its power. When Lucien touched the stone, two of the three dragonkin guardians were summoned to destroy him (the "False User"). Lucien attempts to slay the two Dragonkins when Sakirth (the third dragonkin guardian) shows up, picks up the Staff of Armadyl and hits Lucien on the back, breaking the orb of the Staff. With the impact, Lucien fell on the ground however he was still alive, until Sakirth use the broken Staff of Armadyl`s bottom part to impale the staff inside his chest and kill him on the process. After witnessing his cousin's death, Zemouregal teleports in fear that the Dragonkins would attack him with the broken Staff of Armadyl part.

After the Ritual and Lucien's demise, Zemouregal can be seen, fully rejuvinated, in the upper floor of his fortress, pacing about in a room with Sharathteerk.

Armies of Gielinor

In Armies of Gielinor, Zemouregal is a unit in the Saradomin campaign mission Army of Darkness. In this mission, he is a necromancer three times as strong as a regular one and can poison units with his attack. Even considering these facts, Zemouregal is fairly weak for what he is in RuneScape.
