General Khazard is a Mahjarrat who is featured as the main antagonist in the Fight Arena quest and in Shadow Sword miniquest. Also Khazard is the youngest of the Mahjarrat, born towards the end of the God Wars. His mother was Palkeera. Khazard was tutored by Hazeel, another Mahjarrat. He claimed much territory and built up a following in Southern Kandarin, in a region which is now named after him. Khazard is a follower of Zamorak and is thought to be the weakest of the Mahjarrat (except for Jhallan) due to his combat abilities in the Fight Arena. However, this may be a ruse as in Ritual of the Mahjarrat he is shown to have much more formidable skill. He can be found after the quest north of the agility log near the Sinclair Mansion wandering the Shadow Realm, but is only visible when wearing the Ring of visibility.
Personality and traits
Khazard is an evil, sadistic Mahjarrat who possibly underestimates his fellow Mahjarrat, as he refers to "them" as cunning, but not strong. He rules a militaristic settlement, based around the Khazard Fight Arena, which is at war with the Tree Gnome Village. The nearby sea port which supplies the arena is also named after him. These settlements have been in operation for a number of years; in the RuneScape novel Betrayal at Falador, set in 164, Sir Tiffy Cashien mentions that a White Knight once left the order to spy on their activities some time before. He is vague, however, as to how long ago it was, although another knight named Sir Justrain is known to have left in a similar way in roughly 147. It is speculated that that knight is the one found just south of Burthorpe and across from the Heroes Guild. He has some influence in the shadow realm, as he was able to send shadow realm scouts to spy 'on human and gnome strongholds.'
Fight Arena
In the quest Fight Arena, Khazard kidnaps and forces members of rich families to fight in his arena for pure entertainment for the citizens of Khazard. The Servil family is also captured because Lady Servil refused to give up her land and consequently requests the help of the player. The player makes a rescue attempt and ends up fighting in the arena him or herself. Khazard sets his pet hellhound Bouncer on the player. After defeating Bouncer, the player can then choose to engage Khazard in combat or just to escape. After being defeated the first time, Khazard transforms into a giant form and attacks the player again. Regardless of the outcome of the Fight Arena quest, Khazard then appears in a ghost-like form in the Shadow Sword miniquest .
The General's Shadow
In the The General's Shadow miniquest, the player meets Khazard in a forest in the south of the Fremennik Province. He is in a ghost-like form, and can only be seen with the Ring of Visibility. The General doesn't seem particularly bothered by his recent defeat, and when he seems to almost recognise the player he is easily talked out of it. He charges the player with speaking to several messengers scattered across Gielinor. After this is done, Khazard tells the player to visit the Goblin Cave near the Fishing Guild for his/her reward. The 'reward', however, is just a ruse, as the General did indeed recognise the player and has set a trap for him/her. Upon entering the cave, the player is ambushed by the spectre of the General's pet Hellhound who was killed in the Fight Arena quest, Bouncer.
The 18th Ritual of Rejuvenation
“ | Jhallan is not worth it. I say we choose Wahisietel instead, he's more trouble. | ” |
By the time the 18th Mahjarrat Ritual of Rejuvenation was supposed to take place, Khazard had returned to his normal form and had grown more powerful, having learned how to utilise aggressive magic.
When the player, Ali the Wise, Sir Tiffy Cashien, Idria, Akrisae , a battalion of Temple Knights and members of Crux Eqal were headed to the Mahjarrat Ritual Site in Ghorrock, Khazard and a platoon of soldiers intercepted them. Khazard was surprised to see Ali there, revealing that his actual name was Wahisietel and that he was a Mahjarrat as well. After the revelation, Khazard began to attack the group, taking on the player personally, to seek revenge for his earlier defeat during Fight Arena, even summoning the ghost of Bouncer yet again. However, he was ultimately defeated by the player once again.
Rather than die, Khazard teleported away from the scene when he was close to death so that he could heal prior to the ritual's initiation. When the ritual was already underway, Khazard adamantly stated that Wahisietel should be the sacrifice of the ritual, but his demands were ignored and Jhallan was chosen as the sacrifice instead. When a battle breaks out between the Zarosian and Zamorakian Mahjarrat, Khazard is the only Mahjarrat who does not fight one of his species, instead fighting against Sir Tiffy and Akrisae.
After Lucien is killed by the Dragonkin, a terrified Khazard makes a quick excuse and teleports away to avoid being killed, returning once again to his precious Fight Arena.
Trivia
- Khazard used to wield an Iron two-handed sword with 1 hand, yet attacked with 2, much like Damis.
- When Runescape HD was released, Khazard's armour was changed along with the rest of his army, and his Iron two-handed sword was replaced with appears to be an Iron Katana. After The Ritual of the Mahjarrat was released, his armour was changed once again and he now wields what appears to be a claymore.
- If the player talks to Khazard while he is in his "Giant" form, he will shout "DIIIIIEEEEEE"
- When his chathead was updated in Fight Arena, he still had the old chathead during for Shadow Sword miniquest. This has been fixed with the release of quest The Ritual of the Mahjarrat.
- He has the same examine text as the Khazard Warlord.
- The frozen Zarosian fortress of Ghorrock has a statue of Khazard in its courtyard. Exactly why is unknown. However, it is possible that he commanded Ghorrock at some time.
- Khazard is one of the few Mahjarrat to have a large human following, along with Azzanadra, Bilrach, Hazeel, and Lucien who had the Black Knights and Dagon'hai under his control.
- Khazard may possibly be the weakest Mahjarrat as the player is able to defeat him in his lich form during Fight Arena. Although this may be a ruse, as he was stronger when fought during The Ritual of the Mahjarrat.
- Despite having been rejuvenated, Khazard has been stated to be the only Mahjarrat to keep his skeletal form, this is because "he chooses his skeletal form to better strike fear into his foes...and his army." [1]
- After being rejuvenated, Khazard's chathead colour does not match with the colour of his face on his character model.
- According to the news post released announcing the Fight Arena quest, General Khazard was originally called General Kazar.
