Jhallan is a pacifistic Mahjarrat and one of a few of his kind to still express loyalty to Zaros. He is mentioned to be a very weak Mahjarrat, being the weakest of the race. During The Tale of the Muspah quest, the player helps him to hibernate near the Ritual Site in exchange for the Muspah tail, which was created by Jhallan, draining all of his remaining power in the process of its creation.
He is a shapeshifter, like all Mahjarrat, and is met during the quest The Tale of the Muspah. Unlike most of his brethren, Jhallan is a non-aggressive Mahjarrat who does not wish to gain power and wishes only to rest and exist in peace. During the quest, the player frees him from a block of ice, where he has taken the form of a Muspah, when he had a nightmare of it during his hibernation. When he awakes he tells the adventurer that he is in a weak state and can not participate in the Ritual, and that the player will need to find a new, safer place for him. He meets the player at the Mahjarrat Ritual Site Cavern and they find an area suitable for his hibernation. Before the player eventually puts him back to his hibernation, using four sapphires, he uses a great deal of his remaining energy to create a Muspah tail for the player.
During the quest, he tells the adventurer of all the things he has seen over the thousands of years he has been alive. What he saw made him weary of battle. Jhallan is also the first Mahjarrat to mention any folk tales or aspects of the Mahjarrat that do not directly relate to battle. It is worth noting how powerful the Muspah of lore must be if a Mahjarrat has nightmares about it. It is also noted by Zemouregal that Jhallan was absent for the last ritual.
Ritual of the Mahjarrat
During the Ritual of the Mahjarrat, Lucien extracts Jhallan from his icy sanctuary and uses him as the sacrifice for the 18th Ritual. The majority of the Mahjarrat opposed this decision, although only because they wished to sacrifice Lucien instead. Ultimately, Jhallan is still sacrificed in the ritual and his attempts to exist peacefully are fruitless.
Being a pacifistic Mahjarrat and having avoided the Ritual of Rejuvenation from last time made him weak and exposed for the coming ritual (as well as hibernating and being encased in ice).
Trivia
- Jhallan is the only Zarosian Mahjarrat known to have been sacrificed at a ritual. The three previous sacrifices were all Zamorakian, despite the Zamorakian Mahjarrat outnumbering the Zarosian Mahjarrat. In the 15th Ritual there were 3 Zarosian Mahjarrat in attendance compared to 6 Zamorakian Mahjarrat, yet still a Zamorakian Mahjarrat was sacrificed.
