Kharshai is a Mahjarrat who can be talked to by the players. He does not know he is Kharshai, however. According to both Azzanadra and Zemouregal, Kharshai has disappeared and cannot be sensed using the race-awareness that the Mahjarrat seem to possess. It was confirmed during a Lore livestream that Kharsai is currently a character in the game that can be talked to, and is unaware that he is a Mahjarrat<ref>http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=m-ch-fea&v=WQg_xYVKQJY</ref>.
History
According to the second set of Zemouregal's notes, Kharshai was a fairly neutral Mahjarrat throughout his life. Said to be of average power and temperament, Kharshai survived by going with the majority during the periodic Ritual of Rejuvination in The North, near Ghorrock. Although Kharshai managed to avoid being sacrificed through this method, it left him with no close allies and what Zemouregal deemed a potentially dangerous situation in future rituals. At some point, Kharshai seemingly disappeared, leaving the rest of his race unable to locate him. He has missed at least two of the Rituals, meaning that at this point he would be considerably weakened by his absence.
Azzanadra, a Zarosian Mahjarrat imprisoned during the late God Wars or early Fourth Age, mentioned in an issue of Postbag from the Hedge that, when he escaped the Jaldraocht pyramid during Desert Treasure, he was unable to detect Kharshai. In the words of Azzanadra: "Kharshai may yet live, I can sense no trace of his death upon this world, but nor can I sense his pulse; perhaps his neutrality has earnt him a prison such as mine was."<ref>Jagex. Identity
Due to similarities in spelling, there was once some speculation amongst players that Kharshai was original, non-humanized name of Khazard, although Khazard was never portrayed as a smart Mahjarrat, and it was doubted that he could have concealed his existence from Azzanadra. When The Curse of Arrav quest was released, Zemouregal's notes listed Khazard and Kharshai separately, indicating that the two are separate. It is possible that Kharshai is imprisoned, as Azzanadra suspects, as Azzanadra seemed surprised when informed of Akthanakos' survival - implying he is not able to detect Mahjarrat concealed by certain powerful magicks. Jhallan similarly disappeared from the Mahjarrat's sight between 500 and 1,000 years ago, although his was due to his accidental freezing while in a subterranean part of the Fremennik Province.
Trivia
- Kharshai does not attend the 18th Mahjarrat ritual, in an FAQ it is suggested that we might encounter Kharshai sometime in the future. “Why did Kharshai not attend this ritual?” 'Mod Srowley:' Who knows... If you ever find out who he is, maybe you should ask him.
