The Yin yang amulet is an amulet which can be purchased from the Make-over Mage for 100 coins. The amulet is a powerless replica of the real amulet used by the Mage to transform players.<ref name="postbag5">Jagex. Postbag 5 - "Chaotic chat, family trouble and secrets revealled!", 2. Postbags from the Hedge. *</ref> The Make-over Mage, who was male at the time, was killing a nest of Gazulibirds when he found the real amulet. When he put it on, he was changed into a woman.<ref name="postbag5"></ref> Over time the Mage learned to control the power of the amulet and now offers gender changing services to players.

History

The only sign that the amulet was released was the Make-over Mage's response to the letter sent to him in Postbag from the Hedge, issue 5. Apart from this, it was a hidden update, meaning that it was not announced in patch notes or on the main page. When it was released, the amulet was tradeable, however players quickly began taking advantage of other players who did not read the Postbag, and thus did not know that the amulet was easily obtainable. Players who knew the amulet was cheap would attempt to convince less knowledgeable players that it was a rare item and sell it for far more than the 100 coin price. Because of this, the amulet was made untradeable shortly after its release.

Trivia

• Yin and Yang, in Chinese philosophy, are the two "primal" elements that create, shape and influence everything in existence and have to be kept in balance, though the balancing occurs naturally. It may also stand for men and women and their characteristics, or in fact any dichotomy. The dots in each of them means that there is a little feminine charm in men and a little masculine charm in women, stressing the need for balance and unescaping fact of it. Generally, Yin stands for the "negative" and Yang for the "positive" (for example, the sun is Yang while the moon is Yin). The icon of this Yin-Yang means that whenever Yin develops, Yang will decline, but when any one of the two reaches its extremity, the other element will always appear to balance it naturally. Some consider the Yin and Yang Amulet an unofficial Guthix amulet due to the thinking of balance. Because of this, and its eastern appearance, you could conclude that Guthix might also be known in the highly speculated Eastern Lands.
