A player casting Stun.

Stun is a curse spell in the standard spellbook that temporarily reduces the target's Attack level by 10%. It does not stack with Confuse, any Attack-draining Ancient Curses such as Leech Attack, or itself; once the target's Attack level has been reduced by an effect, it cannot be reduced again until it has fully recovered.

Remember, you cannot use Ancient Magicks or Lunar Spells if you are using standard spells.

Magic training

Suggested equipment to stun with. The Fighter hat, Dragonfire shield and Bandos tassets can be replaced with iron or bronze full helm, kiteshield and platelegs.

Stun is a popular spell for training Magic. Because a curse spell may be re-cast on the target if it misses, it is possible to equip items with the highest possible Magic attack penalty and constantly re-cast Stun on a single monster. At a Magic attack bonus of -65, Stun will never hit the target; this is achievable by equipping metal armour and a set of vambraces. The mud staff gives a magic bonus of +10 When training Magic in this way, it is recommended to use either a mud battlestaff/mystic mud staff, or a combination of a staff of earth (or equivalent) and a tome of frost. As these items provide unlimited earth and water runes, the single soul rune is the only rune needed to cast Stun. As soul runes are currently Template:Exchange:Soul rune coins each, and as Stun gives 90 experience per cast, the cost per experience point is currently Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "[". coins. Under some circumstances, Stun provides cheaper Magic experience than High Level Alchemy, but this is not a guarantee.

Some players prefer to use sacred clay armour in order to double the amount of experience gained per spell. With sacred clay armour, the cost per experience point is Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "[". coins.

Popular locations for training with Stun are Edgeville, casting at skeletons across the Wilderness wall; at an elemental balance in the games room of a player-owned house, at the caged Monk of Zamorak at Varrock Palace and in the Magic Guild cellar, where there are caged zombies. However, any location with a safe spot may be used.

Stun may be casted infinite times on the Elemental Balance in one's player-owned house. Using this method does not require a negative magic bonus and the player can wear whatever he/she wishes.

It was once possible to cast Stun on dummies at Varrock and Lumbridge; however, this can no longer be done. Some players were upset by the removal of the ability to Stun dummies, as it had been a popular method of training Magic.

Because Stun cannot be autocast, repeatedly casting it on a monster involves a lot of clicking. To alleviate this, some players prefer to use a combination of mousekeys and the F4 key (which opens and closes the spellbook interface) instead of mouse movements and clicking.

When using this method, the maximum experience rate is 108,000 experience per hour, at 1,200 casts per hour (1 cast every 3 seconds).

One other method of using Stun, is to use it in combination with high-level alchemy (also known as stun-alching). This can be optimised with a lava battlestaff and a Tome of Frost
