Examine | Increases the wearer's Strength and Attack by 20% when fighting the undead. |
Weight | <1 kg |
The Salve amulet (e) is an enchanted Salve amulet. It raises the wearer's attack and strength by 20% while fighting undead monsters such as Zombies, Revenants, Ankou, Shade (monster) and Aberrant spectres. It is useful for training combat in the fourth level of the Stronghold of Security because of the many undead there. It has been confirmed that it does not give any effect against the seven Barrows brothers.
The enchanted amulet can be made during and after The Lair of Tarn Razorlor miniquest. After defeating Tarn Razorlor, Tarn's diary can be found on a table in the next room. Using the diary with a salve amulet creates the enchanted amulet. It is possible to enchant more than one, if you have multiple salve amulets. Once the miniquest is finished, the diary can also be found in a bookcase of a Player-owned house.
For people going for level 99 Attack, Strength and Defence by killing the Armoured zombies, this amulet is very useful.
For players on undead Slayer assignments, the boosts of a salve amulet do not stack with the effects of a Black mask or Slayer helmet. Only the larger boost will be effective. The larger boost being the Salve Amulet (e), so slayers may still find it useful on undead tasks.
Note: The boost of a salve amulet DOES stack with the effects of Void Knight equipment.

Salve amulet (e) vs. Amulet of Fury
The Salve Amulet (e) is considered by many players as one of the very best combat amulets in the game against the undead. Notice that while the Amulet of fury gives a very high bonus to levels, it cannot easily be compared to the Salve amulet (e), since one attack level boost isn't equal to one attack point boost. However, it is safe to assume that Salve Amulet is more effective for fighting the undead, as a 20% boost to strength has a greater effect than a +8 strength bonus.
Following some calculations with the max hit calculators, the 20% strength bonus equates to a strength bonus of approximately +14 between levels 20-99. Therefore it is probably safe to assume the attack bonus is around the same amount, +14. Both of these bonuses beat the Amulet of Fury's bonuses in these areas, making it more effective offensively against undead creatures. Please note this is assuming no other equipment is worn, if you have a strength bonus already, the Salve amulet (e) will stack with that, giving at highest an effective bonus of +56 with the best strength boosting items worn, overload and turmoil.
The Salve amulet (e), however, only gives a +3 bonus to melee-related defence and a +3 bonus to prayer, while the Amulet of fury gives +15 bonuses to melee, ranged, magic, and summoning defence, along with 5 prayer bonus.
The Salve amulet (e) does not increase defence much. If defence is a concern, the Amulet of fury may more effectively allow the player to stay in action for longer.
When a player is using protection prayers against the undead (such as against Aberrant spectres), the slightly larger defence bonus of the Amulet of fury is not significant, making the Salve amulet (e) preferable for most players.
For slayer assignments against undead, however, if the player can use a Black mask or Slayer Helmet, then the Amulet of Fury is always preferable, since its bonuses stack with the mask's or helmet's bonuses, while the Salve amulet (e)'s attack and strength bonuses do not.
Note that the Salve amulet and its enchanted counterpart only boost Attack and Strength, so its bonuses do not work with Ranged and Magic combat.
