The Emotes Interface

Emotes are animations that a player can select for their character to perform. Before Quick Chat was released, emotes were one of the only ways for muted players to communicate. Some emotes are P2P only, and some others are gained from P2P but can also be used in F2P servers.

Emotes are used for entertainment and sometimes for clue scrolls and quests. They generally do not give any bonuses.

Most emotes can be activated from the Emotes interface.

Emote images that can be fully viewed (colour and all) represent emotes that you have unlocked; either by default, or through the completion of a certain quest or event. Blacked out emote images represent the emotes you have yet to unlock. Though you cannot view the full icon of locked emotes (just the black frame), you can still move your cursor over each one to learn its name, while clicking it tells you what you have to do to obtain it.

Several items have "built-in" emotes, which are unique to each item (such as a Rubber chicken). As such, these special emotes do not appear in the standard emote menu, and you must manually operate these emotes by using the item. This also includes items such as skill capes, all of which have a different emote respective to the skill.

Note: More than one emote cannot be used simultaneously. Trying to do so will result in a chatbox message reading "You're already doing an emote!"
